Taking Control of my TBR! #TakeControlTBR

March 3, 2016 Book Event 20

I so badly need to read my own books and the books that I have already been given for review and to stop adding to my existing stacks with new books that I had to have.  So this yearly challenge for Kim @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer is just the kick I need to get a little control over my TBR.

If you need help with your own book piles, you should check out the graphic above.  You don’t need to be a book blogger, just a reader with a book stack!  And there will be prizes, a readathon (March 12th), a twitter party (March 16th) and lots more to keep us all motivated and flying though those dusty stacks.

My Rules:

pen iconI can read whatever I want, whenever I want but it has to be published before 1 March 2016 for this challenge.

pen iconI will review book ASAP within finishing as I don’t want to whittle down my TBR list but then pile up my reviews-to-be-written list.

pen iconI’m not making a list of books because that would take forever!  Instead I’ll just pull books according to my mood.  Trust me I’ve lots to pick from *nervous giggle*  My biggest fear is that I’ll cause a book avalanche when I start digging though my stacks of unorganised books but who knows what fab book that might just remind to read.

pen iconI’ll update my progress on The Sunday Post which will hopefully keep me focused and stop me cheating with new books!

A little disclaimer!

Control as defined thefreedictionary.com is

1. to exercise restraint or direction over; dominate, regulate, or command. 2. to hold in check; curb: to control one’s emotions. 3. to test or verify (a scientific experiment) by a parallel experiment or other standard of comparison. 4. to prevent the flourishing or spread of: to control a forest fire.

I think I’m never going to have restraint over book buying, will never curb my bookish longings for all the new books.  A quick look at my book room is the only experiment needed as to the extent of the problem!  And I never really want to prevent my books from flourishing.

So this is just a temporary mini fix and next month, I’ll be happy to be set loose and grab all the books yet again.  I’m a book beast and happy about that.

Talk to Trish :  Are you taking part?  If so let me know and I’ll come cheer you on.

Glad you enjoyed the challenge– have missed you around here 🙂

I’m starting off fast and furious, but now the slowdown between reviews for me. I’ve decided in for a penny, in for a pound, so I’m going to only read my own books published and owned before March 1st for the whole month. I know I can do it, but I will be stretching that clicker finger to download a new e-book by the last day, hehe!

Good luck with your sifting through the TBR pile!

Thanks Rita, I keep getting distracted by fab sounding new books but it’s not the worst problem to have! 😀

I had big dreams of culling my TBR down to less that 300 this year. We are 3 months in and I actually think it has grown, but funnily enough I have never felt more in control of my reading! Good luck with your challenge, I hope you manage to get your TBR under control and read some fabulous books!

Good luck! I’m trying to read a lot more of my own books this year overall. I have SO many titles. I am going through and getting rid of a lot, but at the same time, there are so many that I love and really do want to read. I just need to try and find time.

Time is the problem isn’t it. Never enough of it to do what we really want to do (i.e. read all day!).

I think I’m failing epic-ly already! I have only managed one and half books so far, all my ARCs keep calling me and as they are published after 1 March they don’t count. Maybe I can pick it up a bit for the rest of the month!

Hopfully Jess! I’m so bad at sticking to challenges and haven’t done great so far! But it’s a long month so hopefully I’ll pick it up a bit and stay away from those tempting arcs! 😀

I’m wondering now if I should have created a list as I’m not doing great so far! But it’s a long month, hopefully I’ll pick it up a bit 😀

Yes room! I converted our smallest bedroom to a small library/craftroom. But it’s too easy to hide books in there 😀
