The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #86

September 27, 2015 meme 38

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

I’ve been meaning for weeks to mention Blog Ahead but I keep forgetting!  This is being run this year by Herding Cats & Burning Soup and by The Caffeinated Reviewer.  The aim is that you spend Oct scheduling posts for later in the year.  I love this challenge as I work two jobs in Nov and Dec and my blogging time is very limited.  So by using this challenge I can be all organised and it makes life SO MUCH EASIER.

Blog Ahead 2015

Coming Soon: Note To Book!

I’ve been working on a free pdf that I’m going to be offering here at Between My Lines.  It’s called Note To Book and it’s basically a form that you will be able to use either to structure your review or just preserve your memory of a book.  I’ve had a few issues (i.e. mini meltdowns, full on strops and lots of rage) trying to get it all to work.  But I’m nearly there, you should see it on the blog someday next week.  Probably…

ARC Stocktake:

So I’ve gone from 26 to 22.  Yes!  Now I feel like I’m getting somewhere.  I have noticed though that I tend to read my ebooks first and leave my physical books to the bottom of the pile.  Most haven’t released yet so I’m ok but I think it has shown me that I prefer ebooks.  They are just more convenient although sometimes you just need a real book in your hands.

Second Chance Sunday – What caught my eye.  Why not go Sunday visiting?

You can sign up for Blog Ahead.  Oh and don’t be worried, you can set your own goals, you don’t have to aim for the full 31 posts.

Ashley @ Nosegraze explains how to Get Blog Followers from the Right Places.

Lola @ Lols’s Reviews wonders What do you like to see on a cover?

Amanda @ Go Book Yourself wants advise on getting over a reviewing slump.  And she has recently gotten a nasty medical diagnosis too, so maybe take a minute to send some support her way.

I’ve joined FitReaders!  Click on the image below for full details on how you can join in too.

#FitReaders is hosted by Geeky Bloggers Book Blog  and That’s What I’m Talking About

I’ve injured myself! 🙁  And I’m so not happy about it.  I think it’s Achille’s Tendonitis and I’ve being resting, icing, compressing and elevating which seems to be the magic cure for everything!  All I know is that I miss my exercise and it makes trying to eat healthy very, very challenging for me.  So far, so good but it feels like every hour is a battle against comfort eating.

  • Sat to Wed  : I walked an average of 11.5K steps per day
  • Thurs onwards : About 3K steps as it’s too painful to do more than the bare minimum

The plan for next week is use the bike in gym and see if that’s ok and work on abs and arms.  Or if all else fails, I suppose I can go swimming.  We’ll see.

Books I have received to review:

None!  I’ve been too busy to scout NetGalley and there were no surprise packages either.

Books I have Bought!

None!  Being honest it’s not because I was full of self-restraint, it was just I had no time to shop!

Well, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.   How was your week?  Any books you were really excited about?

Note to Book looks fun. I’m sure it will be a big help for folks with reviews. And I’ve found that I’ve really taken off with ebooks too, and only a few months ago I hardly read any that way!Times change I guess…

    Hope your foot feels better!

Thanks Greg, I’m hoping that it will help those who don’t know where to start with writing a review. I’ve always loved my ebooks, mostly because I love being able to carry my books around with me so effortlessly.

    • trish

I’m hoping people who want to write a review and don’t know where to start will find it handy. And I’ve been using it myself now as a trial just to track my thoughts until I write my review and it works well for that too. Now if I could just get it working properly, all would be great!

    • trish

Thanks Maureen, I love taking part in The Sunday Post as it’s so chatty and you get to talk about other things as well as books! Good luck with Blog Ahead, I’ve always found it useful to get me motivated on scheduling posts.

    • trish

I know they say you can’t have too much of a good thing but when it leads to pressure, that’s just not the case, is it?! I think in your case though, you don’t need to feel pressure as you’ve asked them not to send them so now you can just pick and choose what appeals.

Well done for participating in Blog Ahead. I could and should but am not sure I’ll be organised enough!

Exciting news about the ebook / PDF you’re putting together. I’ll definitely be interested Trish. What a fabulous idea!

I like Blog Ahead as it falls at a really good time of year for me and without it my blog would be very empty in Nov and Dec.
It’s just a single page PDF but I’m hoping people will find it useful 😀

  3. Lola

I love the Blog Ahead challenge, it was a big help for me last year and this year I already got in the bloggign mood before it even started, lol. I hope you get a lot of posts written next month!

I read more ebooks than physical books too, but I get all my review copies in ebooks so that probably has something to do with that too. And yes sometimes you just want to read a physical book. Good job on getting your arc pile down!

Thanks for linking to my blog post :D. It’s ncie to have a week without any new books! I only got one new books this week, but it’s a box set, so basically 12 new books, oops. Have a great week!

I’m actually very happy to have no new books! I feel like I’m making a big dent in my own pile and I’m quite content to keep it that way for a while. Although I am going shopping next Saturday and I’m sure I won’t be able to resist the book shop while there 😀

    • trish

Thanks Megan, I’m excited about launching Note To Book as soon as I get my technical issues sorted out! I’m 90% there though so hopefully you’ll see it towards the end of the week 🙂
I really hope my heel mends soon too as I’m really frustrated with it.

  4. Bea @Bea's Book Nook

I can’t wait to see your Note to Book! Sorry it’s been giving you tantrums, technology can be a pain.

Sounds like you really need the Blog Ahead challenge, goof luck! I am looking forward to getting ahead on some posts.

YAY for no new books! Some weeks that’s exactly what we need. 🙂

Wasn’t expecting to see you here today Bea, I hope all is going well on your trip. And I’m not great with technology and quickly turn into a two year old when things don’t go my way! Hope we both have a successful Blog Ahead.

    • trish

Thanks Elizabeth, I think it might be more useful to those new to reviewing but I have been using it as a way of freezing those thoughts until I’m ready to write my review and it works for that too.

  5. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

The Note to Book sounds intriguing. Anything that makes reviewing or remembering easier is always a good thing! I have chronic tendonitis in my foot and I hate how much time I lose having to ice and rest it. I have zero patience for it! Hopefully you’re feeling better very soon and can get back to exercising. That’s a hard place to have it as there’s very little you can do that’s active and won’t aggravate it. Have a great week!

This is my first time getting it and I’m sick of it already! It’s a pain, literally! And yes I’m finding there is nothing I can do really, except sit back and wait for it heal. Does anything in particular aggravate yours or is it just random? I’m trying to figure out why it happened so I can try and prevent it reoccurring.

    • trish

Thanks Tracy, I haven’t even set my Blog Ahead goals yet! I think 10 to 15 posts but I must write a list and see just what I’m aiming for. Good luck!

  6. Laurel-Rain Snow

Congrats on your ARC progress, and for joining Fit Readers!

I am fascinated by the Blog Ahead concept, but since I don’t have an outside job any more, I don’t have a problem with getting those posts done…yet, anyway. LOL

Maybe it would have been great to have while my house guests were here.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

Finally I feel like I’m getting on top of my ARC pile, next I must turn to my own bought books 😀 And yes I love Blog Ahead as it motivates me to schedule ahead and come Nov and Dec, I’m so glad I did. Otherwise the blog would be empty for those 2 months as I know I’ll be flat out on other stuff then.

    • trish

You’re right, my running shoes are pretty new and maybe they just aren’t working for me. I’m also using different ones for walking at lunchtime and I suspect they may be the culprit as maybe they don’t offer enough support. I think I’ll have to experiment a bit.

    • trish

NG has often lured me in just like that! One weak moment is all it takes 😀

Hope you enjoy Note to Book when it launches later this week!

  7. Kathryn@Book Date

Looking forward to your pdf template Trish, will have my eye out for it. Sorry about your injury, seems you have other ways of exercise planned. An injury though just demands care. I can see that Blog Ahead is really a good move for you, hope it works out.

I know I have to be patient about my injury but patience is not something that comes easily to me! I hope you enjoy Note to Book when it comes available later this week. 😀

  8. Cynthia @ Bingeing On Books

I am so sorry that you have hurt yourself! I know it sucks, but try to rest so you don’t hurt yourself further. I actually fell a couple of days ago and twisted my ankle. I took yesterday off, but it is still hurting a lot today. I just did an upper body workout today so I could take it easy on my ankle. I really, really HATE taking it easy on cardio though so I know exactly how you feel.

Congrats on getting your ARCs down. I am trying to read my ARCs AND trying to read all the books that I have been collecting dust on my Kindle. I have only gone to NetGalley once in the last couple of weeks. I have done that intentionally to reduce my ARCs. Of course, now I have two more added to the list. Oy. I need to take a NetGalley timeout for sure.

Sorry to hear that Cynthia, it’s such a bummer to feel you can’t exercise the way you want. I miss my exercise buzz but I suppose being patient now and not trying to rush back too soon will be better in the long run. Hope we are both back on track fully soon.
      NetGalley is SO tempting!

  9. Bookworm Brandee

Looks like you had a good week, Trish. I’m sorry about your injury though. Hopefully it’s feeling better. I can relate – I’d pulled a muscle in my back exercising, then got sick, then sneezed and irritated the back muscle again! Ugh! I’m two weeks out of exercising and starting to climb the walls. *ha* I can’t wait to take a look at your Note to Book – that’s genius! And I appreciate you sharing it. Hope you’re having a great week! 😀
