The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #84

September 6, 2015 meme 31

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

I purchased a bookmark charm from Tonya’s Etsy shop – Beads Mark the Spot.  Isn’t it adorable, I love it so much and now I just want to read physical books so I can keep admiring it! 🙂

And this photo just proves that Autumn is here with a bang.  Just look at the colour of those leaves.  And how cute was this little fellow, he was the least shy bird I ever met.  He hopped all around us!

ARC update : I’m down from 30 to 26, feels like a good step in the right direction.  So now I’m curious, how many arcs do you all have?  I’m not sure what figure I feel comfortable with, it needs to be high enough to give me variety and choice and low enough that it doesn’t stress me.  Still thinking about what range I want to try and keep to.

Monday to Thursday: I did great and had steps between 10K and 13K.  But then it fell apart.  I need to stop this trend as it has happened a few weeks in a row now and it’s not a good trend for me.  This week I WILL be consistent, I swear! :O

Books I have received to review:

None thanks to operation-arc-catch-up.  I haven’t requested any and there were no surprise packages either.

Books I have Bought!

The Crucible

I bought The Crucible on audio.  I was in the mood for an atmospheric play and it also qualifies as a contender for a future Dust off your Classics post.  So double winner!

ARCs have a habit of swamping us don’t they! I feel like I’m always playing catch up and ignoring my bought books so I want to try and change that now. And I love my bookmark, it’s just so pretty, I keep admiring it while I read 🙂

    • trish

I know, both the bookmark and the little robin made me smile! So cute! I’m not great at checking dates on ARCs before I request. I need to get better at that because like you say if they are spaced out, it’s more manageable.

Wow you aren’t kidding about the leaves… we haven’t started turning here yet, but I know it won’t be far off. I’m sorta ready. I guess. Prett Baby looks like a nice psychological thriller, I’m thinking of tackling that one.

Oh I love my ebooks too, I couldn’t live without them. The handiness of carrying your entire library in your handbag can’t be under estimated!

  2. Deborah

Love the bookmark but I have a bad habit of losing them. I swear I take it out and put it nearby but when I go to put it back in it’s disappeared! (Into thin air, I swear!)

Sounds familiar! My remote control and even my books do that vanishing trick too. And it makes me so mad looking for them!

  3. Red Iza

Thanks for mentioning me, Trish 🙂 Robins are not shy at all, I used to have one as a companion when I used to garden, he stayed close and watched me – except when the cat was there of course ! I’m certain you’ll go back to your usual working out – if you don’t, I’ll be there behind you and scolding you, he he ! Have a great week-end 😉

I just love robins, they are so cheeky! I’m promising myself that I’m back to a full workout schedule tomorrow so watch this space!

  4. Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog

The bookmark is adorable! I got through a lot of ARCs in August but I still have so many. I have no self control apparently. I think I am going to try to read only ARCs again in September than take October and November for myself. Hope you have a great week!

That’s like my plan, I’m going to focus on ARCs for Sept and some of Oct, try not to add too many new ones and then tackle my own books!

  5. Laurel-Rain Snow

Gorgeous bookmark! I would want to stick to physical books, too, with that gorgeous marker.

I tend to keep my ARC count low…I get stressed if I can’t read other books as well, and having a big stack makes it too much like work…LOL.

Although, when I started with NetGalley, I went a little nuts and had nine e-ARCs at one point. Now I have two or three at a time, and try to plan the release dates to make things easier on myself.

BTW, I LOVED Pretty Baby….enjoy your books. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

The Crucible– good choice! I read that long ago in high school and it’s a relatable classic, not too heavy or dense.
Love your bookmark! I used to have an Etsy beaded jewelry and bookmarks shop, but then my hands wouldn’t cooperate so I stopped. I’ve given all my bookmarks away years ago so I would like to buy one sometime for my paperbacks on my shelves.
Have a great week, Trish, and enjoy the beginning of Autumn!

I love Tonya her bookmark designs, I only have one bookmark of that type, so I am hoping I can buy one of hers once I have a bit of extra money to spend. Your bookmark is really pretty!

Autumn hit very suddenly here as well, it’s suddenly a lot colder today, although no autumn colours yet.

I think my current review pile is around 50 review books, which is definitely on the too high side. I think 20-30 is a nice amount, maybe a bit more as I read on two e-readers.

Thanks for linking to my post! I hope you’ll have a great week and enjoy your new book!

I have more ARCs than I’m comfortable with but I’m not sure of the exact number. Too many, for sure.

That bird is cute, and yes, look at those fall leaves. Some of the leaves here are starting to turn, it’s too early!

  9. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

I love the bookmark! I love the idea of getting more bookish stuff but haven’t made it happen yet. Right now my primary bookmark is one my daughter made for me as a Christmas present when she was in kindergarten (she’s now a freshman in college). We’re so far away from fall it’s not even funny so I will have to live vicariously through you for a little while. I’m getting pretty tired of summer clothes and am looking forward to sweaters and scarves and boots.
Great job on the ARCs! I started to add up what I have but quit when I got over 60. I don’t think I really want to know. I’m starting to make some progress though so hopefully I can keep up that trend and get it down to a manageable number at some point. Have a great week!

  10. Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros

Oh I love the bookmark! Tonya had showed it to us and we knew you would love it! 😀 I would want to read physical books too just so I could use it! I really want fall to hurry up and get here. It’s been hot again. LOL.

I don’t even want to think about how many ARCs I have. It’s too many that’s for sure. Which is probably why I gave up and started reading what I wanted. LOL.

  11. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

That bookmark is so cute! I know I told you I had 6 for this month, but that wasn’t counting the unsolicited copies that I received last year and never read. I don’t know how many of those I have, maybe about 4 or 5.

I need to do a operation catch up of mine own, but more along the lines of reading books I already have on my shelves instead of picking up new ones or reading kindle books.

  12. Kristin @ My ParaHangover

Ya know, I have no clue how many ARCs I have. I think I have too many b/c I went nuts in Edelweiss last year. I actually need to keep better track. 😛

I think your steps from Mon – Thurs should count for the entire week. You did great in my opinion 🙂

Love the bookmark and great birdie pick! I can’t believe how many leaves on the ground I can see in the picture! WOW!!!

  13. S. J. Pajonas

Wow. Fall comes so early there! But you don’t get mega snow in the winter do you? I’d be okay with an early fall as long as I’m not dealing with 2 meter high snow drifts all winter.

Ooh, I love the fall picture, Trish! Fall has arrived here in the mountains of Colorado as well. The aspen leaves are turning gold and the elk are bugling. I adore this time of year! I congratulate you on your progress with your ARCs! That’s fantastic, really! I have so many…I need to do an operation catch-up myself because they always get pushed aside for something else and my netgalley rating suffers the consequences. 😉 I hope you’re having a great week!
