The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #83

August 30, 2015 meme 43

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

This week was my 12th wedding anniversary.  In some ways I can’t believe it has been 12 years and in other ways I feel like I have been married forever!  I can’t say we’ve always had the easiest time since that day and there has been lots of ups and downs but we are still together and still in love so we must be doing something right!

And now that August is nearly done, I’m getting excited about Autumn.  Summer never really happened here this year apart from the odd sunny day but Autumn is a season that Ireland can do right!  I’m looking forward to long walks through colourful woods, cosy evenings reading by the fire, warm jumpers and boots.  Bring it on!

In August I read 14 books which I think has been one of my most productive months this year.  I’m also really happy with my blog at the moment, I feel I’ve gotten a mix of posts going on that make me feel happy.  I’ve enjoyed adding new features and I love that discussion posts are a regular feature again and I’m loving all the interaction in the comments.  So thank you all so much for being a part of that.

I’ve also decided to tackle my all my older outstanding arcs in Sept.  I currently have 30 of them, not all of them were requested but I want to make a decision on each one whether to read and review them, give them away in a giveaway or donate them to my local charity shop.  And I’m going to post my progress here in my weekly post to keep me accountable.  So feel free to kick me in bum if you see that figure rising!

I got lots of lunchtime walks and evening walks in this week.  My gym was closed for a week but reopened on Thursday and it felt tough getting back into the zone as I hadn’t been there for about 10 days.  Just shows how quick you can fall backwards.  But hopefully I will make progress quickly too.

Books I have received to review:

None.  I met my 3 book limit on purchased books so I held firm!  It was hard though, I’ve heard rumours about all the Harper Teen books on Edelweiss and I’m itching to go check them out!

Books I have Bought!

The Wrath & The Dawn Maybe In Another Life Three Act Tragedy

The Wrath & The Dawn is my next book club read.  I only realised after it arrived that it is a retelling of A Thousand and One Nights so that sounds pretty exciting.

Maybe In Another Life was a book I had to buy when I read Grace’s review for it on Rebel Mommy Blog.  I love parallel universes and I was immediately sold when I saw how enthusiastic Grace was about this one.

Three Act Tragedy was the fault of another book blogger!  This time I’m blaming Katherine at I Wish I Lived in a Library, she posted a snippet of this book on a Friday 56 post some time ago and I’ve wanted it ever since.  Plus I’m always up for adding to my AC collection!

Well, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.   How was your week?  Any books you were really excited about?

The colours have started to change here already and the woods look fab. Its just so colourful and I love crunching though the leaves too 🙂

  2. Kathryn@Book Date

Congrats on 12 years and wish many more years together for you both. Sorry you didn’t get much of a summer in Ireland and hope the many changing colours of Autumn are spectacular. Your steps for fitreaders is really great. Hope you enjoy whittling down those 30 ARCs!

Thanks Kathryn! My steps were great somedays but a bit meh for the weekend. So next week I’m aiming to be more consistent and do the 10K minimum everyday.

Happy Anniversary!!! I am so looking to fall. I do love summer but fall really makes me happy with the pretty leaves, crisp weather and pumpkin everything ! SO happy you got Maybe in Another Life – I hope you love it!!! I NEED the Wrath and the Dawn so bad. Hope you have a great week!

I’m really looking forward to the Wrath and the Dawn, I didn’t know much about it before I bought it but when I opened it and saw the maps, I was in love! Fall is a fun time of year and YES to pumpkin everything!

  4. Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

Happy Anniversary, Trish! It’s true that it’s not always easy, sometimes it takes a lot of work, even 🙂 But you have managed well so far.
I would love to visit Ireland! I’m not even that far away, and one day I’ll manage a trip to the green island. It’s good to know that autumn is a good period!
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

Anyone who says marriage isn’t hard work at times is lying through their teeth or in denial! But it is worth it 🙂 To be honest as long as you don’t visit expecting sunny weather, then anytime is a good time to visit!

  5. Cynthia @ Bingeing On Books

Happy Anniversary!! My husband and I are approaching our 7th wedding anniversary and I know exactly how you feel! One one hand, it feels like forever and on the other hand, I can’t believe it’s been seven years. And next July will be the TENTH anniversary of our first date. Crazy!! I am trying REALLY hard to not request so many ARCs. I overextended myself for September and I feel I may be doing that again with Winter releases. And I can’t wait to see your thoughts on Maybe in Another Life. I saw that same review and immediately added it to my TBR.

I know the years just go by so fast but at the same time it feels like we’ve always been married, it’s funny really. So hard not to go crazy with all the great sounding arcs but I really just want to clear what I have first so I’m not evening looking at them at the moment. Hope I can stick to that!

    • trish

Thank you and yes I’m all for bringing back all the pumpkin flavoured things! It’s one of my fav things about Autumn!

  6. Leanna

    Happy Anniversary! 🙂

I’m still sad we didn’t get much of a summer this year. I don’t mind autumn much at all – and I have no problem with autumn acting like autumn – I just get annoyed when summer acts like autumn instead of playing fair with us!

I had a look on Edelweiss and didn’t download any of the HarperTeen titles (a first for me!)

I know summer was a write off so I’m glad now to just draw a line under it and enjoy Autumn instead. Well done for your EW restraint! I’m not even going to check them out for now, I don’t feel the need for new books but we’ll see how long that lasts :O

  7. Deborah

    Happy 12th anniversary!

And I’m with you on the summer thing – except in my part of the world it was winter and there wasn’t much of it! I hoping we get a coolish Spring though as our Aussie summers (in my part of the country) can get quite hot!)

Some nice reads there. I’ve read and re-read most Agatha Christies a gazillion times and watched episodes of various productions on TV again and again. She was so far ahead of her time!

Hope you enjoy Maybe in Another Life as I enjoyed that one as well. Very cleverly done!

I only started reading Agatha Christie a year or two ago, I always thought they would be a bit dry but I ended up loving them and now I just want them all! I’ve also watched a good few of the TV shows now as well. I think she was fab at structuring her plots and I love trying to outwit her but it never happens!

    • trish

I didn’t know you had brutal weather, that sounds like it was tough going! Too hot? I love Autumn and yes please to all the pumpkin everything! yum! 🙂

    • trish

Oh wow, now that really is a lifetime! And yes that is exactly what gets us through the bad times when they hit and gives you the strength to keep moving on together. I feel like my steps are a bit inconsistent but I’m hoping to improve on that this week.

  8. Kristin @ My ParaHangover

Happy Anniversary!!! If you’re not having ups and downs, you aren’t living I say!!! My hubs and I literally just celebrated 11 years on the 28th but our secret wedding anniversary is 12 years on 11/28/15 (long story).

I have Wrath and the Dawn in physical ARC and I haven’t read it yet! UGH, I just don’t remember my physical copies! I need to get to it b/c it sounded fantastic – great buy.

And YES, you’re a much better person than I… but you will be back to Edelweiss and looking, I can feel it 😉

Thanks for visiting me! I love your blog!!!

    • trish

Ohh a secret wedding anniversary sounds like there is a great story there! :O And I’m glad I’m not the only one who ignores my physical arcs, they are always the last ones I get to as I love the convenience of my ebooks for reading on the go. Hope we both love The Wrath and the Dawn! I have no doubt that EW will lure me in during some weak moment! Thanks for visiting and following, much appreciated 🙂

  9. S. J. Pajonas

Oooh, I’ve been thinking about reading Agatha Christie again, and now I know I’ll have to pick up a few of her books some time soon. I hope you enjoy this one!

I don’t think I could live without summer. I like my summer days hot and steamy, sitting by the pool with a cold glass of iced tea. I think I was meant to live in the tropics. Too bad winter is coming. It is my most hated season of all.

Happy anniversary!! Our 11 year anniversary is coming up and I can hardly believe that either.

I love AC and they are always so many of them in the charity shops so it’s easy to build up a collection of them. Your summer sounds more like the kind of one I wanted! I might head off somewhere sunny before the year is over, if finances allow. And thanks 🙂

  10. Faye la Patata

Happy Anniversary, Trish! It sounds actually so exciting and heart-warming to have been in love and married with someone special for twelve years. I’m going to be married soon (at 23?! Yes! Haha. I hate it though that people keep telling me I’m waaay too young… if you’re ready, you’re ready, right?!). You’ve definitely been reading way more than me, though! I think I read less than 10 this month so far… and the month’s ending tomorrow! HAH!

    • trish

I agree Faye, you are the only one that knows how you feel and if you think you’re ready, then no one should feel the need to question you on that. It’s your life! 10 per month is more normal for me but I was sick for a week so that meant lots of evening reading as I felt too crappy to do anything else!

    • trish

Thanks Shaina! I’m really looking forward to sorting through those ARCs and bring that figure down in to a less stressful number!

  11. Lola

I am also looking forward to autumn as our summer was just bleh. We did had some nice weather, but it was just a hard summer with the rats and such, so I will be happy when summer is over. And autumn is one of ym favourite seasons and I am looking forward to some cooler weather.

Happy 12th aniversary! I hope you did something fun to celebrate. I still have a lot of older ARC’s/ review copies to get through as well. I am focussing on the newer ones first and then hope to make a dent in my older books as well. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books!

  12. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Happy anniversary! We celebrated our 12th this year as well and I know just what you mean about it feeling like forever but not. I’ll take the blame on Three Act Tragedy and hope you enjoy it! It’s one of my favorite Poirots – especially of the lesser known variety. Have a great week!
