Trish Transforms : Instagram Motivation

May 5, 2015 Trish Transforms 18

Trish Transforms is my project for 2015.  I want to get fitter, I want to get leaner and I want to enjoy the journey. Dieting doesn’t have to be hell and this isn’t a diet anyway, I want to make changes for good. So I’m going to document my random thoughts along the way in an effort to inspire and motivate myself.

Quick update first!  I’m down 28 pounds now and feeling great.  I still have a good bit more to lose but losing what I have lost so far has just made me a zillion times happier in my life.

One thing that inspires me daily to stick to a healthy lifestyle is Instagram.  It doesn’t matter what diet you follow be it weight watchers, slimming world, whole foods, macros, etc, you just need to look up that hashtag and you will find a world of inspiration waiting for you.  Recipes, fitness routines, motivational quotes; you name it, you got it!

When you see other people going to huge efforts to plan and prepare their food and you see how MOUTHWATERING healthy food can look, it just makes you want to dash into the kitchen and see what you can do too.  And ditto with exercise, if you are feeling tired or fed up and just want to be a couch potatoe, just flick into IG for a few minutes.  When I see a friend giving it socks in the gym or smiling with satisfaction after completing a long run, well that just inspires me so much to get there and do it too.

This month I’m taking part in a photo challenge hosted by Skinny Doll and everyday you take a photo for the daily prompt.  For example, brekkie was Day 2.  So one that makes you want to have a healthy breakfast and two you get lots of ideas for future menu planning when you see what everyone else is enjoying.

And I have also created my own hashtag on IG for #TrishTransforms and I tag all my weight-loss focused photos with that tag.  That way I have a visual picture of my journey whenever I need a little push to stick with it.  I can see just how far I’ve come but more than that how I’m loving the journey.  Again it’s just something small but it can be the difference between sticking with it and giving in.

I think for me the reason Instagram works so well is that it gives me a place to post my own goals and successes but as well as that seeing everyone else working so hard convinces me not to throw in the towel.  Knowing I’m not alone in my quest encourages me no end.  Not to mention the encouragement you get back and the tips you pick up from other people.  Plus it’s free, what are you waiting for!

Thank you so much Grace! And I love your pictures too and following along your account. I never realised just what a visual person I was before this.

Pinterest is a lot of fun too! I tend to use IG a lot on my phone which is handy as its easy check a few when its all visual and so isn’t time consuming.

  1. Alma @ Journey Through Fiction

Huge congrats on all your progress! I love the idea of using Instagram for motivation! I’ve been on a healthy kick since the new year, too, but I had a bit of a slip up while I was on holidays. I knew that was going to happen so I’m not too cut up about it 🙂 Now that I’m home though, I plan on getting straight back into things. Best of luck, Trish!

Holidays are for enjoying so I wouldn’t count that as a slip up at all! You should join IG, it has worked really well for me and it’s so easy to just slip in and out when you need a little extra motivation.
Look me up if you do Alma 🙂

  2. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

I love eating healthy, but it’s so expensive. And I think that’s the main reason I don’t make it the habit it should be. I’ll never understand why it’s so expensive to buy fresh produce, verses something full of preservatives and added ingredients.

I love instagram! But I tend to forget to check out other things outside of the book community.

I get annoyed that fresh is so much more expensive too. But it also shows just how sub-standard the processed stuff is that they can sell it so cheap :O We really don’t want to know what’s in it. I buy whatever fresh produce is on offer and we have Aldi (a German chain) here which I have to admit is great value.

  3. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

I kind of use instagram but I’ve never thought of using it as diet inspiration. That’s a great idea! I’ve been really good about tracking my food lately and am just trying to cut down on my portions. I’ve only got about 10 pounds to lose but I have such a hard time staying on track. You’re doing such a fantastic job! You’ve been my inspiration for food tracking. Especially on the days when I really really don’t want too!

Thank you! And it’s fantastic inspiration, you should use it for that! And 10 pounds is so little that I’m sure its hard to motivate yourself to lose them but I bet this will help 🙂

I’m very fickle on social media, I love them all for a while! But I do think IG is my fav at the moment and it works perfect for healthy eating inspiration right now.

Way to go, Trish!!! I follow you on Instagram and love seeing your pictures…it’s so motivating!!! I’m a visual person like you and am trying to be more health-conscious about what I eat and to stay more active. It’s definitely more of a lifestyle change, but by doing it slowly, one step at a time, it’s more likely to have lasting effects. Keep up the good work!!!

You said it, it’s a lifestyle change and I don’t want a quick fix diet. So I love that IG helps me see the bigger picture and how many other people are all working away at the same goals that I am.

    • trish

Aw, thank you so much for saying that. I really post them just to keep myself focused and accountable but hearing that makes me feel proud 🙂

I think with IG, you just have to search hashtags for things that appeal to you. And then it really works! I’m so addicted to it now for healthy eating and fitness inspiration and also book photography which I love looking at.
