I was a goner when I saw the cover for this book; pearls, a handwritten letter and sepia tones.  I knew this was one blog tour I had to sign up.  And based on the cover, I was expecting a romantic, feel-good, easy read and that’s exactly what I got.

A simple touch and suddenly, Paige is in the past - living someone else's life, seeing the world through their eyes, and feeling their deepest emotions.

Paige used to think memories only existed in one's mind. But now, she knows better. She can't explain how or why, but she has glimmers: special moments that have remained behind - clinging to a letter, a ring, even a worn-out pair of boots.

When Paige returns from each glimmer, a small part of her has changed. Who is this gourmet cook, fashion designer, feisty lover? And how is she supposed to explain this to her family without them thinking she has completely lost her mind?

Paige thought her new talent was a gift, until…she was suddenly transported into her sister’s memory, and caught a glimmer of her secret life.  Take this humorous and romantic journey, as Paige learns about true love through the lives of three extraordinary women.

First Line of Glimmers by Barbara Brooke:

“A sprinkle of dust encircles my head, and a cough escapes my list.”

My Thoughts on Glimmers by Barbara Brooke:

I really enjoyed this romantic book which had a lovely whimsical quality to it.  The main character – Paige – discovers an ability to time-travel into other people’s lives by touching an object that they have a strong connection to.  This isn’t a sci-fi book and the details behind this are not explored, I just took it for what it was and went with it.  The fanciful element to the book added an interesting dimension to the story and created a fun plot device to link all the characters together.

Paige travels into three people’s lives and the story switches to their point of view when it happens.  Sounds confusing but it’s not in the slightest.  All three characters and Paige are very different and all are in different decades which creates a fun blend of situations and emotional ups and downs.

The contemporary setting and the 1980s setting both felt very authentic to me and I can speak with good authority on both as I have lived through them.  However my favourite was the 1818 setting in England as that is a period I just love reading about.  Times were so different and for women in particular they were so restricted by society rules in what they can and can’t do.  So a light-hearted glimpse into Emma’s life felt really enjoyable to me.

As the story is changing perspective, the pace is lively and I was really curious about how all the different characters were connected to Paige and each other.  Seeing it all come together felt like completing the final piece in a jigsaw puzzle ie – pleasing!  There was one character I didn’t like (Paige’s sister), to be honest I’d like to smack her in the chops and tell her cop on a bit.  But every book needs one character that you love to hate and she was balanced out by the others who were genuinely lovely.

If I were to compare this book to a movie, I would say it’s like a feel-good Hallmark movie.  It might be a little cheesy but it’s good old-fashioned entertainment and leaves you with a smile on your face.  Perfect for a rainy afternoon and for a little romantic escapism.

Well thanks for coming back, when it happens me I usually flounce off in a bad mood! I’m like you I love time travel and even though it wasn’t overly explained here, I still loved that extra element it added.

Sounds like a good book for that certain mood we all find ourselves in, when a light but intriguing story will do 🙂 I love time travel, especially with a romantic more than a sci-fi feel to it.
Thanks for sharing it. I also love this cover and admit to being swayed by covers when I am undecided.
