Top Ten Tuesday : Books I need to read before watching the film/TV show

May 14, 2019 TTT 20

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  This weeks theme is Books I need to read before watching the film/TV show.

Books I need to read before watching the film/TV show

I don’t always want to read the book first.  Like Game of Thrones, I love the TV series, but have no real interest in reading the books.  But mostly something about a book just makes me want to grab it first, before I sit down with my popcorn to watch.  And even for books where I enjoyed the movie, I’m usually left feeling the book was better.  So I’ve enjoyed the experience more for having read the book first.

The ones where I already own the book!

I had bought some of these before they were movies (or before they were being made in to movies).  But now I’m even more eager to read them.

The others that I need to buy/borrow from library

I can’t believe I haven’t read a Joe Hill book yet, but really want to.  The others have been on my TBR since they came out!

The rumoured adaptations that are on the way

I think these are both very powerful books and if I just watch them, that I’d lose a bit in translation.  I feel they need to be read to do the stories justice.

What books do you need to read before watching the film/TV show?  Have you read any of the ones on my list?  If you have also done this TTT, please leave a link so I can come visit 🙂

What a great list! I had no idea that The Woman In The Window was going on screen. I enjoyed that book so much!

I loved if I stay!! After seeing the movie, I have to say the book was still better however I thought it was really well done. There are lots of books I still need to read before I’ll let myself watch the show/movie though! The hate u give and where’d you go Bernadette are two on my list!

I’ve watched the films for both If I Stay and The Hate U Give, but I’ve not read the books. If I Stay, I don’t think I will but I was struggling with The Hate U Give and the movie has renewed my interest in it.

I don’t often watch TV or movies, so this one is hard for me. I find myself more wanting to SEE said show/movie because i read the book. (Like, If I stay, The Hunger Games, TMI, etc.)

That being said, I will usually go back and read the book if I find that the show/movie was a book first. If that makes sense. LOL

I am not sure if I will survive the All the Bright Places film. I am getting emotional just thinking about that book. I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch Me Before You, because same thing. The book was so emotional for me. I am looking forward to Bernadette and The Rosie Project (is that back on?). I just finished the final Don Tillman book this weekend, and it was great.

I usually like to read the book first, if I can, and I usually end up liking the book more too! I’m really looking forward to The woman in the Window- I loved the book!
