Top Ten Tuesday : Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books

April 9, 2019 TTT 26

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This weeks theme is Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books

  1. If you work in a bookshop, jump straight to no 2 or you will hate me!  I rearrange books, if I see a book I love, I give it prime bookshelf space so someone else gets a chance to discover it.
  2. I’ve bought the same book as a physical book, an ebook and an audiobook.  I like choice!
  3. I stole a book from my school library.  Don’t worry I brought it back.  And I have no idea why I didn’t just ask if I could read it.  Surely the teacher would have been delighted.
  4. When house hunting, the first thing I always considered was where would my books go.  That sorted, I’d then consider if I liked the kitchen, etc.
  5. I’m a book sniffer and a book fondler, I love running my hands over all the shiny spines and picking up books just to flick pages in bookshops.  Flicking through a book is such a lovely, satisfying sound 🙂
  6. I’ve risked accidents by walking while reading.  Thank goodness audiobooks came along, and put a stop to that bad habit of mine.
  7. If a book is great, I sit in my car reading it, before heading in home.
  8. And if it’s amazing, I’ll do sneaky page reads at work.
  9. I’ve held entire conversations with my husband, without hearing a word, because I’ve been reading my book at the same time.
  10. Pre kindle days, I always packed an extra bag just for my books when going on holidays.

I rearrange books in bookshops too, if I see a series in the wrong order, then I have to reshuffle it back into the correct order. I feel like this is a public service, no?

I’ve done #2 a few times. Especially if it’s a long book, being able to switch from ebook to audio on my Kindle is a godsend. The physical copy just gets to sit and look pretty on the bookcase. LOL

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

Great list and perfectly reasonable all of them. When I go to the library I re arrange books like you do in the bookshop. Now you are giving me ideas!

I borrow multiple formats from the library too and totally agree different formats work in different situations.

When we were looking for houses, I checked out the local library first! I figured once we bought a house, we’d be staying in the area for awhile, and I needed a good library!

I’ve petted books before. And I did buy the ebook version of a book I had already pre-ordered because the mail was late and I didn’t want to wait another hour to start reading it. I may end up doing the same thing this year with a book I’m getting the hardback to, just so I can start reading it a few hours before midnight on Tuesday (because they arrive at midnight Eastern time.

Yay, another petter! And I can totally understand that re the different versions when it’s a book you are itching to get your hands on.

Oh my goodness! I have done #2 so many times it’s borderline shameful. Lol. I’ve recently switched to using the library to get the multi-format fix! My poor husband! I’ve done that to him as well. Once it got to three times of repeating himself when he just gave up. The things we’ll do for the love of books!
