Top Ten Tuesday : Inspirational/Thought-Provoking Book Quotes

April 30, 2019 TTT 35

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This weeks theme is Inspirational/Thought-Provoking Book Quotes

“Time passes. Even when it seems impossible. Even when each tick of the second hand aches like the pulse of blood behind a bruise. It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me.” ― Stephenie Meyer, New Moon

“Sarte was right, Hell is other people” —Tana French
“I often don’t say things out loud, even when I should. I contain and compartmentalize to a disturbing degree: In my belly-basement are hundreds of bottles of rage, despair, fear, but you’d never guess from looking at me.” ― Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl
“In my mind I am eloquent; I can climb intricate scaffolds of words to reach the highest cathedral ceilings and paint my thoughts. But when I open my mouth, everything collapses.” ― Isaac Marion, Warm Bodies
“Anne was always glad in the happiness of her friends; but it is sometimes a little lonely to be surrounded everywhere by happiness that is not your own.”  ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island
“But give me more credit than that. Someone else may have dealt the hand, but I picked it up off the table, I played every card, and I had my reasons.”
Tana French, The Likeness
“Whoever wrote this chapter of my life got it spectacularly wrong. The editor should have sent it back for a rewrite.” ― Eva Jordan, All The Colours In Between
“If you only shine light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim.”  ― Colleen Hoover, All Your Perfects
“You make a life out of what you have, not what you’re missing.” ― Kate Morton, The Forgotten Garden

Just for Fun

And just because I felt they all got a bit depressing very quickly, I’ve picking something a LOT lighter to finish with.
“In that same year, NYU conducted its own study. With rats. They implanted electrodes in the brains of male rats and put two buttons in their cages. When the lucky little bastards pushed the blue button, the electrodes triggered an orgasm. When they pushed a red button, they were given food.

Care to guess what happened to all the rats?
They died.
They fucking starved to death.
They never pushed the red button.
Need I say more?”  ― Emma Chase, Tangled

Excellent Quotes Trish! That’s part of what I love about books; the way the words speak to me and I can relate to them on such a deep level. I can especially relate to the gone girl quote, and I would love to rewrite the chapter on my life. The Tangled quote is awesome! I loved that book so much!

Won’t it be great if we could just rewrite chapters that easily! Or then again maybe not, probably better to focus on writing the future. I agree some words just really speak to me too.

“You make a life out of what you have, not what you’re missing.” – This is definitely my favorite. It just gives you a lot of emotions in one simple line. Thank you for making this list. It really helps.
