Lessons Part 1 and 2 by Jenny Colgan has an unusual format, and I feel I need to explain the sequence before I jump in to these reviews. This series started with Class and Rule. And now some ten years later, the third book has been released as a 3 book serialisation. Lessons 1 and 2 (which in effect are book 3A and 3B) are what I’m discussing here today, but if you haven’t read Class, then jump back to that review to stay spoiler free.Lessons: Part 1 by Jenny Colgan

As the summer holidays start, scandal hits Downey House. The attraction between Maggie Adair, the fiery, committed English teacher at Downey House and David McDonald, a teacher at the local boys' school, has escalated - and now both are facing an uncertain future.
The girls of Downey House - mercurial Fliss, glamorous Alice and shy, dependable Simone - are facing long summers at home. But the new term is not far away - and it will bring new pupils and lots of fresh new challenges..
My Thoughts on Lessons Part 1 by Jenny Colgan
When I heard that this third book was finally written and partially published, I shrieked for joy. Then raced to Amazon to buy Lessons 1 and 2, and to pre-order book 3. Finally, I would get to find out what happened Maggie Adair. And all the pupils that I had taken to my heart in this fun-filled boarding school rollick of a read.
What strikes me about this series is that it balances the teenage strifes of the pupils and the more mature strifes of the teachers. Maggie is happy go lucky, impulsive, fiery and totally adorable. And my idea of a perfect teacher. I love following all their journeys, and feel emotionally involved with all the characters.
Overall this book did not disappoint and I devoured in a few hours, and jumped straight on to Lessons 2.Lessons: Part 2 by Jenny Colgan

The unmissable second instalment of Jenny Colgan's return to the Little School by the Sea - perfect for anyone who ever dreamed of going to boarding school!
After the scandals of the summer, life has settled down for Maggie Adair and the girls of Downey House. But Ismé, the new scholarship girl, is causing trouble.
Downey House is preparing for Christmas - the halls are decorated, the play is in rehearsal - but it doesn't seem to be the most wonderful time of the year. Will the school be able to pull together to celebrate the festive season?
My Thoughts on Lessons Part 2 by Jenny Colgan
Thank goodness I had this book on hand, as the previous book would just be a teaser. I needed more boarding school shenanigans, more teachers gone crazy and most of all I needed a certain romance to happen. Even better it was Christmas, so I got most of that and a Christmas play too!
These are fun reads, with characters to take to your heart. I was giggling, feeling all the feels, and sighing with happy feels while I read. There is a reason these books are often referred to as Malory Towers for grown-ups, as that is what they are, with a modern twist. I really hope this series continues as I want more!
The only drawback
These books are too short! I would prefer to have read them all as one book, I’m just not a fan of releasing the books as a serial. But as I enjoy this series so much, I am making an exception and buying them anyway.
Who should read Lessons Part 1 and 2 by Jenny Colgan?
I highly recommend Lessons to you if you love boarding school settings or a if you want a light-hearted fun read with lots of laughs. Fans of authors such as Sophie Kinsella or Lisa Jewell should also enjoy.
