Between My Sundays – what happened this week

Sparkly nails cheer me up!

This week, I did something that I haven’t done in years, and I got my fingernails manicured.  I went with shellac paint, so I should get 2/3 weeks out of them.  In the past, I’ve always favoured french manicure colours, but this time I threw caution to the wind.  For now, I’m the proud owner of 8 sparkly red nails, and 2 sparkly gold ones.  Such a small thing, but it made me really happy this week.  Plus, it makes my hands look all Christmassy!

How often do you check your phone?

A survey released in Ireland this week proclaimed that the average person admits to checking their phone over 50 times a day.  LOL, I’d say “admit” might be the key word!  However, I’m afraid to check my actual stats!  They’d be shocking.  In reality, it’s more than that, though.  Totally convinced it’s addiction.  So I’m trying really hard not to be constantly glued to mine (mostly unsuccessfully).

The Goodreads Award Winners:

Every year, I wonder just what I’ve read all year when the winners are announced.  Because, it’s never the books that everyone is voting for.  This year is no different and I’ve only read one of them.  Delighted to see Colleen Hoover won best romance, as I’m saving that to read on Christmas day.  As I mentioned in the Christmas Book Bloggers Tag, I have a yearly tradition of putting aside a special book to read that day.

Then I was surprised to see that Into the Water won best mystery/thriller.  Since, it was one I enjoyed, but I know lots of people hated it/DNF’d it.  Colour me shocked that it nabbed the award in spite of that.

Before We Were Yours won best historical fiction.  That meant I immediately had to add it to my TBR, so it was great timing that I also ended up getting a review copy this week!

Interesting about the Goodreads awards! I wouldn’t have guessed Into the Water to win either, based on the mixed reviews. I haven’t read it though. The One looks interesting. And I don’t want to think about how often I check my phone lol…

    Have a great weekend!

Oh cool, where’s the picture of the nails? 😀 I’ve never done a manicure. My nails are kind of shit, they are bendy and soft, nothing stays on them longer than a day. So I’ve never felt like it’s worth it at all.

I am so depressed about the NetGalley thing though. Have you heard about that? Although I’m not sure where you live, you’re probably unaffected.

YES!! Sparkly nails ARE happy, sunshine, and rainbows all over the place! I’ve been wanting to get a pedicure for a while so I have nice toes to stare at but I can’t find a place to get them done around my area (I live in a semi-rural area). BUT I’m doing my nails tonight, STAT!!! Thanks for the awesome idea! It might not look as nice as yours but sparkly is still good.

As for the Goodreads winners… I thought the same exact thing! I have a rant post building inside me about Goodreads but in the meantime, I think the winners are just a popular list. I don’t think it’s a quality list. I mean, Artemis by Andy Weir? It wasn’t even that great of a story. There were better stories, just not as well known… guess I’m a snob.

I’m with Evelina… show us the nails 🙂 Have a great week!

I miss getting my nails done. I used to always have them done but my job doesn’t allow it. Hopefully my next job won’t care.
I almost never have read the books that get the Goodreads awards until after. I read a bunch of great books this year that I guess weren’t as popular as what was chosen. Oh well!
Your new book, The One, looks really interesting. Hapoy reading and have a great week!

That’s a great survey, I probably check it 50 times or more aswell. That’s really terrible isn’t it? But, I just need to check it. lol.

    Have a great reading week!

I wish I could grow my nails long enough for a manicure. I don’t bite them but they seem to break just by looking at them. As for looking at my phone, I would hate to think too. I saw a game the other day that is designed to help you beak the fidget feeling of not looking at your phone by little balls that you move your hands over.

I love sparkly nails! Since I’ve been having gel polish done on mine, I get more wear out of them…and now I have a glittery dark blue. Red sounds good for the holidays.

I liked Into the Water…and Before We Were Yours. I am curious about Secrets We Keep.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

I have the audio book of Into the Water, but had such a hard time with all the POV’s, I just gave up. I wouldn’t mind trying the physical book at least. I am happy the Hoover won though!! You got some really great books this week, and I hope that you enjoy them. Thanks for stopping by earlier. Happy Sunday.

I used to be a smartphone junkie but after watching a TED video about the negative effects of it a few years ago, I’ve cut off the time i spent using it. I just use it mostly to replay to important messages, phone, and online taxi. I don’t have social media on my phone. They’re on my iPad. That way, I can control how much time I spent on it. 😁

I hope you enjoy your new books. Have a wonderful week. ❤️😁

I’ve only gotten shellac nails once, but I really want to do it again. Going sparkly would be FUN! I only vote in the Goodreads awards for the category I’ve read a book, and it’s not many! there are a lot that were nominated that i DO want to read though.
