State of the ARC – November 17

November 1, 2017 Bookish Fun 15

Welcome to State of the ARC – November 17 where I review the situation with my review books.  And just like Fagin in Oliver Twist come to the conclusion that I think I better think it out again!

State of the ARC is a monthly meme hosted by AvalinahsBooks, which is a fun way to share our ARC progress, challenges, wins, woes and mishaps.  I’m joining in as I think it will keep me accountable.  Seeing the actual state of my review shelf will remind me I’ve only 1 pair of eyes and can only read so many books.

State of the ARC – November 17

Total ARCS : 16 as broken down below:

  • NetGalley : 7 books to read and review
  • Received From Publisher : 6 books to read and review
  • Received from Author : 3 books to read and review

Reviews pending: 10 books read but not yet reviewed.  I need to get this figure down!

Progress made Oct 17

I read 10 books in October.  4 of those were library books, 4 were ARCs, and 2 were books I bought.  I’m pretty happy with that as I feel like I got a nice balance.  Sure I would like to have read a few more, but it is what is!  Furthermore it definitely reminds me not to accept/request too many review copies, as in reality I don’t get through too many in a month.

Plans for Nov 17

I’m joining in HoHoHo readathon, so that will curtail my ARC reading that week, as I’m planning on reading books I already own.  So I’m going to shoot for 6 arcs this month and we’ll see how that goes.  I’m vaguely planning to read these review books, but it depends on the mood.  The curse of being a mood reader!

On top of that a huge priority for me this month, is to catch up on reviews of books that I read but never wrote the reviews for.  To say nothing of staying on top of writing reviews asap for any book I read in November.

Talk to Trish: What is the state of your ARC shelf?  Do you like to track them or just wing it?  Have you read any of my arcs, or do any catch your eye?  Let’s talk!

  1. Let's Get Beyond Tolerance

I somewhat track my ARCs. I tend to have a good grasp of Netgalley books (only one for November so that’s good!) and the physical review books are MOSTLY from ALA. I’m a bit behind on those, but I did so well until October that I’m not terribly worried. I probably won’t get as many ARCs read this month because I have a book club book to read, a couple library books, and the HoHoHo Readathon as well!

Yay for doing well in October. I’d love to get though as many as I can before the year ends, so I can start 2018 on a (nearly) clean slate!

Yay! You got The Chalk Man too! I think the release date is different here in the US, it is in Jan so I will wait to read it til next month. I like the look of all you November books though. I don’t usually track my ARC calculations. I do now with this new feature though. I do tend to read books in release date order though. Anyways, good luck with your reading goals this month!

I’m pretty sure The Chalk Man is out here, so I need to read it asap! I’m so bad at releasing books in date order, but I do eventually get around to them all 🙂

Sounds like you are doing well. I too have one more November release to finish before I start my December pile. I have a total of 32 ARCs right now with one being released next May.

I can completely relate to being a mood reader, Trish! However, you seem to be making a much bigger dent in your ARC pile than I am. I can’t wait to read some of the ARCs I have, but I haven’t prioritized reading them yet. Oops!

For November, I am going to try reading two. One is a November release, another I’ve just had on my shelf FOREVER. Baby steps, right? Right!
