The Sunday Post : Get your bookish news – Trick or Treat?

October 29, 2017 meme, The Sunday Post 38

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.  It’s Halloween weekend, so I’ll be cuddling up with yummy trick or treat goodies and scaring the pants off myself with creepy books, podcasts and films.

Between My Sundays – what happened this week

Trick or Treat?

Treats all the way!  I had a fun week this week, as I only worked half the week.  We headed off for a night away, and enjoyed the luxury of time to just chill.

I also ran loads this week, including my first 10K so far this year.  Chuffed with myself.  Due to some medical issues, my running has been stop/start all year.  But I’m finally able to get properly back into in it and start working up my distances.  One of my runs was more of an obstacle course though as there is still evidence that Hurricane Ophelia rattled through here the previous week.

Plus I’ve started Yoga.  I’m using a free app called Down Dog, and trying to teach myself the moves.  I struggle with sleeping, so I’m hoping yoga will help with this.  If anyone has yoga recommendations that I can do at home (books or YouTube), let me know.

What I’m watching:

The Great British Bake Off: I thought it wouldn’t be the same this year without Mary Berry and with different presenters.  But I have to admit, I’m loving it as much as ever.  The humour still sparkles, the showstoppers break, the bakers are still nervously on the knees watching their bakes in the over.  And I love it!

Strangers Things!  Eeekkkk.  Finally season 2 is here.

What I’m Listening to:

My husband has convinced me to listen to The Black Tapes podcast as he loves it.  It seems appropriate for Halloween. Expect screams, and nervous jumps as I’m a wimp! Anyone else listened to it?

Books I have received to review:

How excited am I to get my hands on Holly Bournes’s first adult novel.  Very VERY VERY excited!

I’m currently reading The Betrayals.  Hmmhh, I’m not sure.  It started off great but it’s not overly exciting me now.

And it’s about time I read another Jo Spain.  Because I loved her first book, but somehow never read anymore.  Delighted to rectify that now.

Books I have bought:

I downloaded Pause to Rewind for free on Amazon.  I love this author, so I was delighted to see it as a freebie.

Library Haul:

I’m rereading all the books in the Little House series via audiobooks.  Such a heart-warming series, I never get tired of it.

And I’ve finished The Dark Lake.  Wow!  Heads up to all fans of police procedural thrillers, Sarah Bailey is the new author in town, and she is one to watch!

Calling that a wrap on this week.  Happy Reading to all.

Do I have yoga recommendations for you! Check out Bad Yogi (there’s a free 30 day challenge on their website and heaps of free videos as well) and Yoga with Adriene (she’s my favourite, a number of 30 day challenges and lots and lots of videos on youtube!)

I’ve tried a few others that I haven’t really liked as much, there’s so many out there!

I love The Great British Bake Off (and Sewing Bee, and The Great Pottery Throw Down haha) they’re always making yummy things.

Those photos are so beautiful, all that greenery. Enjoy your new reads 🙂

Great, thanks Wattle. I’m already using Yoga with Adriene, and find she explains the moves really well, and I can’t get over how many videos she has. No excuse for being bored anyway! I will check out Bad Yogi too, love the name!

I need to look up Sewing Bee and The Great Pottery Throw Down as I haven’t heard of them, but I love all the shows like this.

  2. Michelle @Because Reading

Your pictures are so gorgeous! I love the areas that you get to go to almost every day.
I am trying to get myself to do a bit of yoga, I just can’t seem to find the time to add it into my day. I would love to feel better, flexible and sleep.

I will have to check out the podcast, I have been looking for creepy ones, I am currently listening to Welcome to Night Vale. Which is funny and odd.

I hope you have a great week, Trish! Happy Reading!

I love being outdoors and I love nature, so I really appreciate how lovely my surroundings are. I feel the same about finding time to practise yoga, but I’m telling myself even 10 minutes is better than nothing. The benefits seem to be so amazing, and already I feel more relaxed so that is really encouraging. Oh yes, I’ve heard great things about Welcome to Night Vale, I must add it to my queue.

  3. Lola

Sounds like you had a great week. Those pictures are so pretty! I hope I can visit Ireland one day. I keep thinking to give yoga a try one day, but I don’t really feel like going to lessons, but learning some things at home does sound nice. Have a great week!

I was the same Lola about not wanting to go to classes, mostly because I can’t spare the time. So using the free app, and free youtubes video is just a lot better for me.

  4. Jan @ Notes from a Readerholic

I love the photos! Looks like your time away was to a beautiful spot and that Ophelia did some damage. I hope things get cleaned up quickly. Good for you doing a 10k and I hope you can continue with your running.

So glad you’re enjoying the new British Baking Show. I hope it’s shown next year here in the States. I was wondered, too, with people I love leaving the show.

I will have to check out The Dark Lake since I like police procedurals. I hope you have a really nice week!

    • trish

Ophelia did quite a bit of damage unfortunately, but I think most of it is cleared up now. I was sceptical of how good Bake Off would be this year, but am very pleasantly surprised to find I still love it. Have a good week 🙂

  5. Anna @ Read and Repeat

Those pictures are so gorgeous! I’ve always lived in land-locked places so the coast is just so unique for me. Haha it really does look like an obstacle challenge for that run.
As for yoga I have to agree with other posters that Yoga With Adriene is the way to go! She is amazing– she puts out really good, free, easy to follow yet still challenging, yoga videos that range from like 10 min to 50 min.

I live about 50 minutes from the coast, but I escape there as often as I can as it’s my happy place! I’m doing Yoga With Adriene too, and I love her. I can’t get over how many videos she has, I won’t be bored anytime soon!

    • trish

I was’t even going to watch The Great British Bake Off this year, but it honestly is as good as ever! The standard amongst the contestants is so high this year.

  6. Laurel-Rain Snow

I am curious about Stranger Things, which I haven’t watched yet.

I enjoyed The Breakdown…and I’m curious about The Break, since I read and liked a book by Marian Keyes a while back…and you gave it 5 stars.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

Stranger Things is so good, I love the 80s vibe from it and how creepy it is. Marian Keyes is an author I’ve loved for over 20 years and I read everything she writes.

    • trish

LOL we can’t all like the same things! Have to admit I’m in awe of anyone doing marathons do, I can’t ever see myself doing that.

  7. Bookish

    Hey,
Thnx for visiting my site! I realllly love ur blog design!! White is soo refreshing! Did you draw that banner urself? It’s soo cool! Anyway. you seem to have had a productive week! Whats second chance sunday?

    • trish

Thank you! I purchased the design from an illustrator. I have zero drawing skills but had seen other samples of her work and knew she would be able to create just what I wanted. Second Chance Sunday is just the name I give to blog links I enjoyed during the week, giving people a second chance to visit ones they might have missed!

    • trish

Shin splints are nasty! Glad to find you found an alternative to running though. I love bike riding too, but not on the roads, I prefer cycling on greenway paths. And I have to travel for that, so I don’t tend to do much of it.

  8. Karen Blue

Yay for a little holiday! Those pictures look so good. Also, yay for a 10K. You have really inspired me to pick up my running shoes and get back to it. Seems like every time I went to run (/walk cuz I am still building up my distance) it was raining this week. Hopefully next week will be more conducive to running.
We are currently watching Stranger Things. Also, The Walking Dead is back!! I have never really listened to podcasts but that one you mentioned sounds pretty good.
All of your new books look awesome. Sorry to hear you aren’t really enjoying The Betrayals. Hopefully the rest of them rock.
    Have a great week!

Walk/Run is the best way to build up. That’s exactly what I did. I’ve started running in the rain, otherwise I’d never run as it rains so often here. As long as I can jump in a shower straightaway, it’s actually enjoyable!

    • trish

Running in snow sounds dangerous! I’d be afraid of slipping. Hopefully you’ll get your run done before it 🙂 Have a good week.

  9. Geybie’s Book Blog

Oh wow, you’re awesome. I’ve been pretty lazy with my workout these months. I’ve been so busy and most of my free time spent on reading. I’m starting to feel weak though so I need to run ASAP. I hope you have a wonderful reading week this week. Happy reading. 😁❤️

    • trish

I always think running and reading make a good pair of hobbies. The running shakes the cobwebs off me, and then reading is so relaxing. Works for me! And yes I agree running does make you feel strong, I love that about it.

  10. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

That’s good about the running. I know it can be so frustrating when you aren’t able to run. And I’m relieved to know about The Great British Bake Off. We’re a few seasons behind here and I was dreading when we ran out of Mary Berry episodes. I’m glad to know it’s still enjoyable. That’s great about the yoga! I’ve been doing Yoga with Adriene on Youtube and I love her! Have a great week!

Good to hear about your running. Sounds like your back on track! 😉 I haven’t been working out much lately.. I just can’t get myself to go.
I really want to read to more podcasts. But I don’t seem to be able to find any ones I’d like.
I hope your week is good so far. Happy reading!
