The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News – Return of the Blogger

August 20, 2017 meme, The Sunday Post 40

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.  This week it’s the Return of the Blogger edition, as I’m back.  Again!

The Sunday Post

Between My Sundays – what happened this week

Maybe I should cross out “what happened this week” and change it to this summer.  I have been doing everything except blogging.  Partially because I had some health issues, and I needed lots of me-time to recover and refocus.  But I’m back in my stride again.  Thankfully as always books were there, to comfort me, distract me and encourage me.

I’ve had a few days away in the West of Ireland, by a lake and it was very restorative.  And lots of beach days.  Lots of walking and running and reading.   But now I need to get the  head down and write some of those stacks of reviews that have accumulated.  I keep the physical books that need reviews on my bedside locker and before they reach nightmare status, I need to whittle that pile down.  Don’t even mention those on my kindle!

What I’m watching:

Not a lot!  I finished Friends from College and it was ok.  An easy watch, with lots of laughs and I’d definitely watch a second series.  Oh and of course I’m watching Game of Thrones.  OMG!  This is a cracking series so far, I can’t believe there is only 2 episodes left.

Second Chance Sunday – What happened in the blogosphere:

Kim @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer celebrates her Six Year Blogoversary.  Congrats Kim!

Maureen @ Maureen’s Books has a discussion about Making Notes While Reading.

Books I have received to review:

I have received lots of ARCS over the summer, and have been reading through them steadily, so expect lots of reviews.  However these are the ARCs that I have up next on my reading list.  But to be honest, I’m not really a follower of lists, I’ll just dip in to them when the mood hits.

  • The Chalk Man by CJ Tudor – how sinister is that cover!
  • Give Me The Child by Mel McGrath – I love dark psychological thrillers, and this has all the vibes of being just that
  • Why Seagulls Roost in Paris by Kathleen Curtin – an ARC that came all the way from Paris to me.  “From the attic rooms of a Bourgeois residence to the cellars and catacombs of Paris’s old quarters, the story serves up adventure and intrigue”.  Yummy!

Books I have bought:

None.  My aim this year is not to buy more books, until I start reading more of the ones I already own.  But I do have a shopping cart full on The Book Depository!

Library Haul:

I’m listening to Small Great Things on audiobook.  I’m raging while I read it, but I’m also loving it.

Last Seen is my very mysterious e-book.  Set in the UK, around a summer beach hut community, it’s another read that I’m loving.

So, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.

Looks like a beautiful lake! Glad you got to get away. And Game of Thrones is quite good this season, isn’t it? Although man it’s flying by!

I’m curious about Last seen since the Lucy Clarke book I read I really liked.

The lake was really pretty and as I hadn’t been there in years, it was fun to be back there. GOT is going too fast, and it’s going to be a long wait for the next series. So far Last Seen is great!

Nice photos 🙂 is that the sea? Wish I could go to the sea this year too, but it’s probably not happening. I have a huuuuge pile of ARCs myself! Which is why I’m planning a meme linkup post at the end of the month. Maybe you can join to make sense of your numbers too 🙂

That meme sounds like a good idea, if I have time I’ll definitely join in! I’m hoping to really focus on getting reviews written and scheduled as I’m so behind now. The first photo is the sea (luckily I only live about a 45 minute drive away) and the second is a lake.

      • Evelina

Oh, you’re so lucky! I’m 5 hours away from the sea. So quite a ways away!
I am also maybe like 7 books behind for reviews xD good look catching up!

  3. Anne @ The Reading Life

I hope you’re feeling better! I know what it’s like to have a pile of ARCs to read when at the same time you’re drowning in your TBR list XD. And Game of Thrones.

I honestly don’t know what to feel about Dany anymore.

    Have a great week!

Thanks Megan, I always mean to go up North as well. Sometimes when a place is so handy, you kind of forget about it! Belfast is my travel bucket list though.

  4. Rita @ Paging Through Books

I do hope you’ve been feeling better! I’ve been away while we moved and am slowly re-entering the blogosphere. The books you listed above sound so yummy; you always have such good selections and I usually find at least one I definitely will read. I like the looks of Chalk Man, Give Me the Child, Last Seen… I have Small Great Things and keep meaning to pick it up but then I dive into my multitude of request books.

    Have a great week ahead!

Lovely to hear from you Rita. Looks like we are both returning at much the same time. I’d highly recommend Small Great Things, but it’s definitely a book you need to be in the mood for. Hope you have a good week too.

  5. Laurel-Rain Snow

Great lake! I envy you that restorative time.

Enjoy those books, too; Last Seen looks good.

I tried to like Friends from College, but found the characters a bit…well, annoying and adolescent, especially a couple of them. LOL.

Have a good time catching up on the reviews! Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

I love me-time! It really sets me up and revives me. I’m looking forward to Last Seen too, and yep I know what you mean about the immature characters in FFC, but they somehow grow on you!

  6. Lola

Sounds like the time off was good for you :). That picture of the lake you posted looks so beautiful! I am glad to see you’re back to blogging and good luck getting those reviews written. Have a great week!

Thanks Lola, I’ve a few busy days in work, and I know I won’t get much reviews done till mid week. But I’m hoping to get lots done after that. And yes the lake is fab, the pictures don’t even do it justice.

    • trish

Thanks Crystal. Now I just need to sit down and write those reviews, before I forget everything about the books!

    • trish

Thanks Jenea, I’m loving the look of my library selection this week and can’t wait to get stuck into them.

Happy to see you back on the blog Trish!! I missed you out here. But I’m happy I was still able to follow you on FB and Insta.. Made me not worry too much! 😉
I’m having a little Sunday Post break this weekend, but will be back next week. But I just had to say Hi on your return post! 😉

I’ve been keeping up with my blogging friends via social media too, so I felt that I was still somewhat in the loop! Enjoy your blog break 🙂

Breaks are good Nicole and I love coming back to blogging feeling excited and passionate about it all over again. Glad you are revived after your break too.
