Top Ten Tuesday: Mommie Dearest…books with crazy mothers!

May 16, 2017 TTT 32

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and it’s a book listers dream  post!  Today the list is a freebie about mothers’ so I thought I’d choose some of the most dysfunctional ones I could find – Mommie Dearest…books with crazy mothers!

top 10
I love dark, twisty characters as they are just so interesting to read about.  And bad mommies are the worst, because it goes against the laws of nature for this relationship to be so toxic.

Mommie Dearest…books with crazy mothers!

At the Edge of the Orchard by Tracy ChevalierThe Boy Most Likely ToLying in Wait by Liz Nugent

At The Edge of the Orchard: Sadie Goodenough was far from a good enough mother.  She was crude, put alcohol ahead of her children, and let them down when they needed her most.

The Boy Most Likely To: Well maybe crazy isn’t the right word here.  But passive and weak are not mothering skills to be proud of.  And Tim deserves so much more.

Lying in Wait:   Lydia is not so much an expert in mothering as she is in smothering. And she is pretty much the best example in what not to do when rearing your child. On top of that she is a cold, cold human being.  Devoid of any traces of accountability or empathy for others.

The House We Grew Up In: I feel a bit mean including Lorelei as I did love her.  But I wouldn’t want a hoarder for a mother, and Lorelei’s extreme hoarding pushed all her family far, far away.

Mr Mercedes: Mr Mercedes is evil personified, and his mother made him that way!  She all but made me throw up in my mouth.

Don’t Call Me Baby:  The main character has a mother who documents every part of her daughter’s life on her blog.  Yes, EVERY part, I repeat every part *cringe*!  Nothing is deemed too private to share.

Cinder: Stepmother’s don’t escape my list either.  Nice move volunteering Cinder for plague research.

A Game of Thrones.  Cersei Lannister.  Enough said!

Flowers in the Attic: The grandmother is pure evil, but I think the mother is 100 times worse. Because she actually does love her children, just not as much as she loves herself.

Talk to Trish:  Do you like dark, twisty characters like I do?  Who is the worst mother in a book that you’ve come across?

I love how different and unique this Mother’s Day post it. It’s a good tribute and at the same time wow. There really are a lot of crazy mothers in books! I do like dark characters also. I have this thing with villains but if they’re psychologically cray, it does creep me out.

    Anyway, have a great day!
