The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News – MayDay!

April 30, 2017 meme, The Sunday Post 38

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.  It’s MayDay weekend here, so I’m enjoying the 3 day weekend, and taking the opportunity to return to The Sunday Post.

Between My Sundays – what happened this week

“Get busy living or get busy dying.” ― Stephen King, Different Seasons

I’m Back!

Hello….is there anyone there….  I don’t know how I haven’t done a Sunday Post in so long, but time has just slipped away.  And I promised myself I’d never force blogging, I would wait until I really wanted to do it.  And today, I just woke up thinking I really, really want to do a Sunday Post, catch up with my old Sunday Post friends, and meet new ones.  So hello, long time to talk, and I really have missed you all.

MayDay!

Happy Mayday to all my Europe folks, I don’t think it’s a holiday in the US, but here it’s a workers holiday.  And any long weekend is a reason for celebration, more time to do all the things I love.  Unfortunately it’s also a wet weekend this year, so I had to take a rain-check (literally) on my fun outdoor plans.  But lots of time for blogging, reading and Netflix, so yay!

Between My Reads.

I haven’t been reading a lot lately, as I’m in a bit of book slump.  So when I wasn’t reading, I was

  • Binge watching Sons of Anarchy.  I am so in love with this show, and have a soft spot for all the characters, even the ones I shouldn’t have a soft spot for.
  • I’ve also watched some of Thirteen Reasons Why.  I’m only on episode 3, and really wished I’d read the book first.  It’s disturbing, and I have lots of FEELS and THOUGHTS on it, but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen it all.
  • Walking, and running loads.  I love Spring so much, and being outside just makes my soul happy.
  • Taking photos of all the beautiful things I see on my walks
  • Trying lots of new recipes.  I’m such a stick-in-the-mud, and would happily eat chicken everyday for dinner, but I’m forcing myself to mix it up, and I’m loving the variety.

I think this photo from my Instagram just about sums up my Spring feels, and everything I want to say about my Spring.

From along my running route 😍😍

Books I have received to review:

The Hourglass by Tracy ReesThe Whole Thing Together by Ann Brashares

The Hourglass by Tracy Rees is from NetGalley, and I’m loving historical fiction at the moment, so I grabbed it.  Plus it’s set in Wales, which really appealed to me.

The Whole Thing Together by Ann Brashares was one of those impulse one-clicks from NetGalley.  It’s a contemporary YA, and I loved the summery feel of the cover.  And it’s set on Long Island.  Can you tell I’m a sucker for locations!

Books I have bought:

Carnaval by Stephanie Garber

I haven’t bought many books so far in 2017, as my goal is to catch up on books I already own.  However Caraval is my next book club read, so I made an exception for it.

Library Haul:

Everything You told Me by Lucy Dawson is my current audiobook from the library, and it’s gripping.  A woman wakes up in a taxi with £400 pounds, at the other side of the country and a suicide note in her book, with no memory of how she got there.  I’m listening every chance I get!  Finally a book that it defeating my book slump 😀

Thanks Grace, I’m buzzed to be back and to feel back in the blogging zone again. Sons is so good, even if I’m so scared about how it’s all going to end! I just love Jax and all the guys!

  2. Lola

Yay! Glad to see you’re back and doing a Sunday post again. I do think that’s a good attitude to have and not force blogging if you don’t feel like it.

Sorry to hear about your slump :(. I hope you get out of it soon!

It does sound nice how you did some other things. I like trying out new recipes and making new things.

That spring picture looks great! I have been enjoying the spring weather lately 🙂

Thanks Lola, I think the slump is slowly passing. I feel excited about reading again, so that’s a good sign! Glad you are enjoying Spring too, it’s such a beautiful season.

    • trish

I love long weekends, it’s such a lovely break without having to use your holiday days. I’m looking forward to Caraval!

    • trish

Aw, why are you missing nature? I think The Whole Thing Together will be a great beach read, so I’m hoping our weather improves enough to give me a beach day soon!

  3. Laurel-Rain Snow

I am enjoying 13 Reasons Why, although I only watch one episode at a time (that’s all I can manage!), and I’m on Episode 6 now.

Girlboss is one I started watching this weekend…loving it.

Everything You Told Me looks very tempting. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

    • trish

I find Thirteen Reasons Why very intense Laurel so I only watch one at a time too. I watched episode one of Girlboss last weekend too, it seems very promising, I loved the end of it. Will definitely watch on.

    • trish

Exactly Amy! I left Caraval in work by mistake and I’m raging as I planned on reading it this weekend! Looking forward to our chats on it too 🙂

Everything You Told Me sounds perfect for audio. Yay to ridding yourself of the book slump. I love the roadside flowers picture. It was good seeing you link up. I haven’t visited or commented on a Sunday Post in three weeks. First Easter, the illness. I think the longer we blog, the more we realize it is ok, to miss a day or even a week.

Everything You Told Me is really exciting me Kim, and that feels so good after a long book slump. And I was so happy that I felt like linking up too, I hope my blogging mojo has found me again. And I agree, experience makes breaks easier, as we know we can jump back in again, and it feels nearly like coming home 🙂

    • trish

Well I hope you still have a lovely MayDay, and find time to do something that makes you happy. And it’s always nice to meet fellow European bloggers, so hello!

  5. Greg

Happy May Day, and happy to see you back! I watched 13 reasons Why and it has a lot of things to think about! I’ve never watched Sons of Anarchy though…

The Whole Thing Together does look good, and I’ve heard so much about Caraval- really curious about that one.

    Great spring pic!

Thanks Greg, I’m happy to be back! Thirteen Reasons Why is very thought-provoking and I think it’s a great program to get a discussion going. I’m looking forward to watching on to see how it all plays out.

    • trish

I’m very curious to read the book now too Laura. Once I’ve finished the show, I’m definitely going to do just that.

  6. Let's Get Beyond Tolerance

Welcome back to Sunday Post!! 🙂 I hope you enjoy Caraval – I hear good things. I’m about 4 or 5 episodes into Thirteen Reasons Why? It’s different from the book, of course, because it’s a series now but I’m really liking it. I just suck at binge watching, so it takes me longer than most.

I can’t binge watch Thirteen Reasons Why because it’s just so intense. I need a breather between episodes, so I might be while finishing this series! I’m looking forward to reading the book afterwards too.

    • trish

Luckily day is lovely and sunny here too, so it’s a fab day to be off. Yay for long weekends 🙂

  7. S. J. Pajonas

Trish! It’s good to see your face in my blog reader! Looks like spring in Ireland is going quite well. I also am loving spring here. It’s so green and pretty, and the walks I’ve been taking outside have been full of happy flowers. I also have Caraval but I think I got it in audiobook. I’m looking forward to listening to it. <3

Thanks SJ! Spring is the nicest season here I think, I love all the blooming trees and the flowers springing up ever where. So colourful and cheerful. Looking forward to Caraval too!

    • trish

All my running routes are so pretty in Spring, not so much in Winter! I’m having fun adding more variety to my diet, and enjoying experimenting with new ingredients and recipes.

  8. Wattle

Oh spring looks so lovely and green! Our grass is going from yellow to green at the moment haha autumn is trying really hard to be a thing.

Sons of Anarchy! I love that show 🙂 and of course, everyone is pretty likeable – even when they shouldn’t be!

I hope you’re having a good week so far 🙂
