Dark Matter by Blake Crouch just lit up my world for the last 24 hours! It’s fast, twisty and hurt my brain so good with all the scientific explanations!

“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says,
“Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

My Thoughts on Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

I absolutely loved this book and devoured it as fast as I could.  To be honest, I didn’t actually realise it was science fiction, when I borrowed it from the library, I thought it was a thriller.  But it was a very happy mistake as I don’t think I would have read this book if I had known and not reading Dark Matter would have been a big mistake.  Huge.

It focuses on the abduction of Jason Dessen, and the strange twist his life has taken when he wakes up from that ordeal.  His life is not how he remembered.  Instead it is the life he didn’t take.  I love alternate realities and the twists in this book just made me dizzy.  And also made me want to jump up and down with excitement.

It is a bit cliché to say a book left you mind blown but this is the only apt term here.  My mind flew across the room, came back to check if what I was reading was right, and bucked away in shock again!

Basically the plot was spot on, the pace was frantic, the science explanation was challenging and invigorating, and I loved the craziness of it all.  Huge thumbs up.  Now I need to binge watch The Wayward Pines Trilogy on Netflix which Blake Crouch also wrote.  Yes, one book and I’m a fangirl.  It’s that good!

Who should read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch?

Highly recommended if you love twisty, science fiction and alternate reality plotlines.  Fans of Parallel by Lauren Miller and Maybe In Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid should also like this one.  Note these two books are pretty different to Dark Matter, but I think if you like one, you’ll like the other.

I’m glad you liked it, I was blown away by this one too! One of my favorites of the year already. Very twisty and mind boggling. And if you liked this, you’ll like Wayward Pines (the show is good but the books are better!)
