The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News 30.10.2016 Backlogged

October 30, 2016 meme, The Sunday Post 39

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.  This week I am backlogged in reviews and trying my hardest to catch up.

Between My Sundays – what happened this week

Lots of reading and television watching

This week was so much better.  I had to take one day off work to bring my Dad for a hospital procedure but the rest of the week was just a normal week.  Which was a welcome relief.  I got blog posts written and posted. Even better, I binge watched The Gilmore Girls in preparation for the new shows and revisiting my old favourite show was such a treat.  Plus I got a lot of reading done.  And I even got time to watch the final of The Great British Bake Off, but now I feel really sad as that is the last show ever from this team.

Backlogged in Review Writing

I do have a zillion reviews to catch up on.  Maybe a slight exaggeration but I’m going to knock a few out this week as they are dragging me down a bit until they are done.  Thankfully I have great notes on all the books.  I use my note to book PDF to do this.  Do you have a copy?  You can get one by signing up to my email list (link in the sidebar).  It’s a lifesaver for those times when you are reading all the books and writing none of the reviews!

What I haven’t been so good at is healthy eating and exercise.  Whenever I get stressed, like I have been lately over my dad, I turn to food.  I’m frustrated with myself but am ready to jump back on the wagon now.  And I’m already looking forward to how much better I’m going to feel.  Bad food and lack of exercise just makes me feel sluggish.  Enough now!

Books I have received to review:

Tattletale

Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette for a copy of Tattletale.  It’s a psychological thriller and these lines in the blurb made me hit that request button “Once upon a time, there was a little girl who believed in fairytales. Now she is out to get your happy ending”  Sounds intriguing!

Books I have bought:

A Yorkshire Christmas by Kate Hewitt

A Yorkshire Christmas is an Amazon Freebie so I didn’t really buy it!  But I loved This Fragile Life by Kate Hewitt so I thought I’d grab this one for HoHoHo readathon.

It’s time to get ready for this years HoHoHo readathon and so I’m stocking up on festive books.  The readathon is hosted by Kim @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer and it’s a lot of fun.  Well worth joining in and getting a head start on your Christmas reads.

So, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.

Oh checking out your note to book PDF. If I’m reading an ebook I try to use Bluefire reader which allows me to make notes or comments (and I try to remember to go back and look at them when writing the review). But I scribble notes on paper if reading a hard copy book and as I’m usually in the bathtub it’s problematic.

And I really really need to do the book review asap or I get muddled. I’m about 3 behind at the moment and gonna be in big trouble when I go to write one of them!!!

PS. Am excited for The Gilmore Girls return!

I’m the same on ebooks but it’s not as easy with physical books. Especially in the bath! LOL 3 reviews sounds fine to me, I’ve about 12 to do! Oophs!

  2. Laura

That sounds like a great way to keep up to date on the reviews you need to do, even when life gets in the way of writing them!

Have a great week & happy reading!

  3. Laurel-Rain Snow

I do take notes when I read, but I use notebooks…I should check out your method, as I go through lots of notebooks…lol.

Speaking of exercise, I am so lazy (sadly) and must start walking, at least. Again. And why is that exercise bike in my bedroom just sitting there with the big stuffed mouse on it? lol

Tattletale and A Yorkshire Christmas are both calling to me. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

I use notebooks too which is good as I’m a little bit addicted to buying pretty ones! At least this way I actually use them! And why is the thought of exercise so hard sometimes! Especially as you always feel great when you do make an effort. And yes both those books sound good, fingers crossed that they are 🙂

  4. Rita

Nice post this week! I missed you when you weren’t doing your weekend post with all your news.

I have an android-crappy phone so I can’t do Instagram or Litsy, oh well. We plan on changing our phone subscription plan the end of the year. I downloaded the freebie Christmas book so thanks for that tip. And Tattletale looks like a fun thriller.

Favor to ask: I’ve been subscribed to you (for a very long time) with Bloglovin, but once upon a time I used my email so I could get your PDF form for notes. That pc was retired when a “worm virus” destroyed my hard drive and I now use my laptop. Could you send me a new copy of that form, please. Thanks in advance!

Of course I will Rita. I have it on my pc in work so I’ll email it to you Tuesday when I can access it.

I think you’d love Instagram as I can tell from your blog that you love photos. And it would be nice to have a place where they are all together. So maybe next year, you’ll be able to join. I haven’t tried Listy yet myself.

  5. Toady

I hope your dad is coming along. It’s stressful to see a loved one go through illness.
I love all the Christmas goodies. I am a fanatic of seasonal books!
Best of luck with getting caught up on those reviews.

Thank you, he is doing much better! And I love seasonal books now. I never did before I started blogging but they are so much fun for getting into the festive vibe!

    • trish

I love that new fans have come on to the Gilmore train! Really hope the new series will be as good as the old ones.

  6. Greg

Glad you had a good week. and best wishes with your dad- hope all is well. And good luck with your review writing. 🙂 Tattletale definitely looks suspenseful and I may need to get that one too. Especially with that tag! I also need to hey my hohoho reads in order…

It is hard to eat healthy when there’s stress, don’t beat yourself up too much. Hope you have a super week.

I think Tattletale looks great and I’m looking forward to it. And thanks my dad is recovering nice, which in turn frees up time for review writing. All is good!

  7. Let's Get Beyond Tolerance

I’m glad you had a much better week. I really need to get into healthier eating as well. I’m making steps – trying to find new and better things to eat, especially because I tend to get hungry quick and it’s hard to find things to keep me full. Sigh. It’s a struggle. haha

I love Halloween but I’m working so not really doing anything…Oh well, I get to dress up for work so I’ll do a little something!

I read Hercule Poiorot’s Christmas last year and really loved it, so I hope you do too.

I always think little steps are best, as if you try to change too many things it all ends in disaster. Well for me anyway! :O I do find foods with protein help keep me full, so I try to base all meals and snacks around that.
I’m looking forward to Hercule Poiorot’s Christmas!

    • trish

We read too fast! I hate being behind but I’m trying to stay on top of reviews now as soon as I finish the book. And plug away at the older ones. One review at a time, right! 🙂

  8. Stacey @ The Bookish Loner

My problem is the stopping to make the notes. If it’s a good book it’s hard to make myself stop long enough to note something. I have horrible self control!

Good luck with your backlog and have a great week!

    • trish

I know that feeling! With my sheet, I just sprawl out a few keywords and feels after I finish the book. It’s minimal but it does help me recall the book without too much effort!

  9. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

I hope everything goes well with your dad! I’m backlogged on reviews right now as well and I need to sit down and get them all typed out…but I’m so lazy lately, lol.
My roommate in college was a Gilmore Girls fan and I wasn’t, mostly because Gilmore is my last name so I avoided it because everyone used to ask me about the show. So I ended up watching all of the seasons because she basically forced me to, and I really enjoyed it. I had to get use to the fast talking though.
I hope you have a better week this week!

    • trish

I think I’m permanently backlogged in reviews but I’m trying hard to dig myself. Glad you ended up liking the GG. And I know the fast talking is insane, but I love it!

  10. Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight

That’s nice that you got to enjoy some relaxation and TV time this week 🙂

I take notes of my books just on my computer. It is definitely a lifesaver for those books that you take a while to review. I just wrote two reviews the other week for books I read a year ago lol. Even with the notes those were a little difficult, but they were doable! Definitely wouldn’t have been possible without notes.

I should probably get back to healthy eating too. I was doing good for a while, then I also got stressed. Good luck getting back on track with your eating and working out, and I hope your dad is ok!

Making notes really does help you recall a book. And it can be effortless enough too, as all you need is some keywords and your basic feels. Glad you have a system that works for you.
So hard to eat healthy when all you want to do is comfort eat. But on the other hand, it makes me feel crap so getting back on track is essential.

    • trish

Same! It’s hard as even when you know it’s the worst thing you could do for your mind/body, old habits just crawl back in so quickly. And thanks Tanya!

  11. Jane @ Raincity Librarian

Oh my goodness, I am certainly not ready for Christmas, not yet! We had Christmas decorations up in some shops as early as September, which is just madness.

I know how you feel about reviews – I write reviews for an online Canadian journal, and I can see the books I still have to review sitting on my desk staring at me disapprovingly… 😉

That’s nice you had a pretty normal week, sometimes those are the best.

I got a Yorkshire Christmas this week! It looks like a fun read. I don’t think I’ve read anything by this author before.

Tattletale sounds interesting, I hope it’s a good one. I hope this week was a good one too!
