The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News 12.06.2016 – Library Loving

June 12, 2016 meme, The Sunday Post 40

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

The weather has been amazing here lately.  Blue skies, sun from dawn till dusk and I’ve been adoring every minute of it.  I love that I’ve been able to enjoy my runs in the sun, read outside, eat outside.  Basically I’ve all but moved out of my house and into the garden whenever I’m home!  The downside is that while I’m sallow skinned and tan easily, I also get a rash from the sun which isn’t so pleasant.  Anyone else suffer from this?  What do you do, I take an antihistamine and use Eucerin cream for the itch but I can’t give up being out in the sun, we get too little of it for that.

My most exciting news (for me, not so exciting for anyone else!) is that I’ve joined the library.  I’ve never really wanted to before but now my library has audiobooks (finally!) and so I became a card-carrying member.  Best decision ever, I’m devouring so many great books and I feel like I’ve discovered a whole new world of books to read.

Do you live in Ireland or England?  If so don’t forget to check out the great giveaway for a Hardback copy of Love, or Nearest Offer by Adele Geras (who by the way is Sophie Hannah’s mother!).

Books I have received to review:

None, I think!  I’ve been working my way though the library instead!

Books I have bought:

Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah

I have been dying to read more books by Kristen Hannah since I read her outstanding book, The Nightingale, last year.  I choose Firefly Lane as it was on sale and I glanced at the first page the day it came.  I usually do this just to get a feel for the book.  An hour later I was still reading!  It’s fab!

Library Haul:

The Lost DaughterLife after Life by Kate AtkinsonShopaholic to the StarsThree WishesWhat Alice Forgot by Liane MoriartyThe GuiltyThe Last Anniversary

I’ve been going a bit crazy on Liane Moriarty lately, I’ve been bingeing on all her books.  And I’m going to continue until I have read every last one, I have an author crush going on!

Psst, why not join me on Instagram?  I’m a wanna-be #bookstagrammer and I love taking photos of my books.  It is seriously one of my favourite things to do as soon as I get a new book.  I also have photos of my stationery hauls, my walks, my fitness journey and random photos of Ireland but if you only come for the books, that’s aok!

And my latest addiction is Snapchat!  I admit it I’m a sucker for social media 😀  This one is mostly about my weight loss journey (PS – I hit 4 stone lost lately and am on the final stretch to GOAL! )

So, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.

Hey congrats on the library! I don’t go to the one by me nearly enough… and the weather has been nice here too, sunny and warm. Glad you’re having lots of sun. I love eating outside and just relaxing…

I’ve become a big fan of Liane Moriarty as well since reading a couple of her books, and I’m looking forward to her new one which I don’t think is too far off.

I’m loving my library membership, it’s like getting lost down a bookish rabbit hole 🙂 And yay for sunny, warm weather. I can’t wait to read the new Liane Moriarty book too, I think I’ve seen some ARCs and I’m tempted, even though I’m trying to resist NetGalley!

  2. Deborah

Oh Trish, that’s dangerous… the library!!!! Although you’ve reminded me I want to borrow some audiobooks from there for some travel I have coming up!!!

The rash sounds terrible. I used to get special stuff from the doctor when I was a kid but when I got older I didn’t need it anymore.

Yeay for joining the library. I haven’t been to a library in years because I have too many of my own books to read at the moment. 😉

Lucky you, it sucks, my allergy has just gotten worse over the years! And yes I’ve too many books too but it never stops me adding more to my stacks!

  4. Mystica

You’ve updated me on several new books I knew nothing about! The Liane Moriarty and Hannah books especially. Thank you.

  5. Maureen Beatrice

I’m glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the weather Trish. I’ve seen your pictures and snapchats and it looks beautiful were you live. 😉
The weather here in The Netherlands was also pretty good this week. It’s much less now but I hope the sun will get back soon.
‘Firefly Lane’ sounds like a great read. And that cover is really pretty.
Have a great week and happy reading!

Our sun is all gone this week Maureen 🙁 Oh well it was good while it lasted! I hope it’s still good in The Netherlands.

  6. Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog

Glad you have been having such great weather!! It has been pretty good here too. I love the library so much and definitely get a lot of my audiobooks there. I also love liane Moriarty. I think I only have one from her backlist to get to. Have a great week!

My library never had much digital content in the past but now it has really upped it’s game and I’m obsessed! And I’m the same with Liane Moriarty, one to go and then her new one and I’ll have read everything she wrote!

  7. Samantha

I just got my library card a couple of weeks ago! I have been binging on books that have been out for awhile but I never got around to reading! I’m loving it (and the audiobooks are amazing!)

That’s exactly what I’m doing Samantha, it feels great to be reading some older books that have been on my book radar for years. Yay for libraries that feed our book appetite!

  8. Brandie

The nice weather is great!! I’m loving that we’re having great weather here, too.
I’m delighted to know you’re enjoying Firefly Lane!! That was my first Hannah book, and I’ve loved all her books since!

  9. Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

The sun and nice weather sounds really nice, but getting a rash from the sun, not so much… That happened to me a while back, too, but I changed sun-tanning lotion… that was actually the real problem, my sweat mixed with the lotion, not the sun itself.
Congrats on getting a library card! I wish there was an English library here in Geneva… maybe I need to start one 😀 I prefer to read in English rather than in French, so the library doesn’t really work for me.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading!

I sometimes wonder if it is the lotion Lexie but I change brands all the time. I rarely get the rash in Ireland as it doesn’t get hot enough but always get it on a sun holiday. It’s not that much of big deal and disappears after a week but I’d love to find a way of avoiding it!
That’s interesting that you prefer to read in English, is that because you just prefer to read a book in the language it was written rather than a translation? I’m just envious of your mastery of languages!

    • trish

Very happy to join that club Tonya! And yes bringing back books on time will be a challenge for me too!

  10. Laurel-Rain Snow

Libraries were my go-to place before blogging…and before Amazon. But I still occasionally go there, only after requesting books online, however.

I’ve enjoyed several of your books…but I’ve somehow missed Diane Chamberlain’s The Lost Daughter…so I have to look it up!

Enjoy…and sorry the sun is such a problem for you! Outdoors in general is my problem, as I am allergic to all the pollen, etc. But I take Zyrtec…and hope for the best.

Enjoy your week, and I love Liane Moriarty’s books, too. And how cool that Sophie Hannah has a writer mother!

The Lost Daughter was published as the The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes in the US Lauren. So confusing when publishers do that!
Such a nuisance that you have an allergy too, it’s frustrating when they get in the way of just enjoying outdoors. Like you I just try to ignore it and do what I want anyway!

    • trish

I’m loving both the physical library and the online site Emma too! I only joined for the digital books but I actually love the whole experience of browsing in both.

  11. Lola

The weather has been similar here, blue skies, warm weather, but not too warm. When we visited the zoo this week we used a lot of sun screen, but I still burned a tiny bit. I never have gotten a rash though. Maybe ask your doctor what they know. Taking an antihistamine sounds like it should work if it’s an allergic reaction of some kind.

I went to the library a lot as a kid, but now it’s more pricey and they don’t have books I want to read anyway. So it’s not worth it at the moment. That’s great your library has a lot of audiobooks you want to listen too.

I like the cover for Firefly lane, I hope it’s a good one and you enjoy it as much as the other book by the author you read. It sounds good if it lures you in from the first page like that. I hope you’ll have a great week!

I’ve talked to my doctor before and apparently it’s quite common but there isn’t much they can do about it. Prevention is better but I love the outdoors too much and it’s not that bad so I just put up with it and use medication to control the itch.
The library in Ireland is free! I didn’t realise that you had to pay in other countries. And yes not much point, if they don’t stock the books that you want to read.

  12. Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight

That does sound like wonderful weather! Especially since it’s been storming here 😛 Sorry about the sun rash though.

Yay library! That’s awesome that you’re enjoying it so much now that they have audiobooks! I like to borrow ebooks from mine 🙂 Have a great week!

    • trish

I’ve only borrowed one ebook so far as I have a few arcs to get through first! But I do plan on using that more too. So definitely, yay for libraries! 😀

  13. Karen Blue

When we moved here I was so excited to get my library card. I am now a bit in debt to the library thanks to both of my daughters, dammit! Looks like you have been getting some awesome books from your library. Sorry to hear about your issues with sunshine, that just sucks. Have you tried Benadryl?

I’m so bad at bringing books back on time but am determined to stay on track this time! Plus I can renew them online which should help! We’ll see. LOL at your daughters ruining your good name in the library! 😀
I haven’t tried Benadryl! But I will, thank you!

    • trish

The Firefly Lane cover is gorgeous and it’s a good fit for what’s inside too which I always appreciate! I’m so impressed with the audiobook choice in my library that I’ve cancelled my Audible sub for now!

    • trish

That’s interesting Terri, I’m not sure if that sunscreen is sold here, well I know the brand is I’ve just never seen it with helioplex. But I will check it out, thank you!

  14. Michelle

I don’t get rashes when out in the sun, but I can’t have my arms exposed to the sun without feeling like my skin is burning. I usually wear a jacket outside, even in summer. :/
And yay for the library!! I’ve had a card since I was a kid, but I just started using my library regularly again last year, and now that they have digital audiobooks as well I’ve been enjoying not having to find a ride.

    • trish

Wearing a jacket is no fun! That sucks Michelle.
And yes I love all the digital content in my library and how convenient that I can borrow and return right from my phone. Makes me very happy!
