5 Great Podcasts to Listen To!

May 11, 2016 Between Reads 15

Between My Reads is a feature that appears on here sporadically. As I’m sure you might have guessed by now, I’m passionate about books. However, they are not the be all and end all of my life so I thought it might be fun to share some other stuff now again here too. If this doesn’t interest you, don’t worry books will be back on the agenda tomorrow.

Today I want to talk about Podcasts!  I have become a huge fan of podcasts as sometimes I just want something short to listen to that is over and done with in one session (as opposed to an audiobook that takes me about 3 weeks to get through.) And I love listening to them while I walk or exercise as I love feeling that I’m exercising my mind as well as my body.  Plus they are FREE, what’s not to love.

With the huge range of podcasts out there though,  it can be hard to narrow them down to ones worth listening to.  I’ve added some new ones to my queue lately after Lyndsay @ Fizzy Peaches shared her favourites of 2016 so I thought it might be useful to share my all time greats too!

5 Great Podcasts to Listen To!

heart icon Happier with Gretchen Rubin:  This is my all time favourite podcast.  It is full of practical advise on to get a little bit happier in your everyday life.  There is a try this at home every episode, they are easy to implement and THEY WORK!  If you want to feel motivated and inspired to make positive changes in your life, then I suggest you try this one.

heart icon Beginner Runner Village : This one is perfect if you are thinking about getting in to running or if you just want to up your running game a little.  They are geared at beginners and I found them practical.  Not to mention crazy motivational; they make me want to lace up my runners and hit the road.  Even though I’ve been running for a while, I still found lots of useful tips and I feel I’ve improved my running routine a bit just by implementing some of the advise.

heart icon Super Serials : This was a suggestion from Katherine at I wish I Lived in a Library and I love it!  It’s a chat show about book serials and it’s just so much fun.  The presenters are lively and irreverent which I love and they have discussed some of the greats like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Sweet Valley High and Nancy Drew. Yep, quite the mix.   If you love snarky commentary on books that you love or even the ones you love to hate (I’m looking at you Sweet Valley!) then you should check these out.

heart icon Ted Talks : Sometimes I just want to learn about a new idea or hear about a new way of thinking or just listen to someone who is passionate within their field.  And with thousands of Ted Talks to chose from, whatever you are into to, I can guarantee you there is a Ted Talk for that.

heart iconInvisibilia podcast : is one I’ve mentioned before but it’s still one of my favs so I’m going to give it another shoutout.  It’s SO good.  It’s all about the invisible things in your life that you can’t see but that affect your daily life.  Like fear and thoughts and beliefs.  It has introduced me to new ideas and I’ve learnt even what quantum entanglement is, I can’t wait to impress everyone I meet with this!  Every episode is such a different experience and it’s all done in a very chatty, breezy style.  I can’t recommend it enough

PS – I didn’t include Serial as I’m sure you all know about one already.  It was another one that I binge listened to but at the end of it I still wasn’t sure what I believed.

Talk to Trish:  Do you listen to Podcasts?  Have you tried any of these?  Any you want to recommend to me, I’m always happy to find new ones.

Super serials is one I need to get back to, I listened to a couple of them and they were a riot. My problem is I just don’t seem to find much time for podcasts, but I do want to listen to them more.

Totally agree Greg, Super Serials is hilarious. I tend to listen to them while walking or driving but as always it’s hard to fit in everything we want to do!

I love them Maureen, great for listening to while walking, commuting or even housework. Hope you check some out and end up loving them.

Oh I’m intrigued by that one Bernadette and will definitely add it to my playlist. I’m not even a writer (apart from the blog) but I love anything to do with words, writing and creativity. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yay for Super Serials! I loved their last Sweet Valley episode. Jessica really is the worst! I’m a big Happier fan as well as I always get some ideas there. I’ll have to check out Beginner Runner Village. I’ve never had good luck with running but I’ve starting mixing in running intervals with walking and have been enjoying it.

Podcasts prepped me for listening to audiobooks. 🙂 So now I listen to audiobooks instead of podcasts on my drive to work.

When I go on roadtrips, I love to listen to Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me. It’s an NPR show that is kind of like The Daily Show–satire and jokes about the news. It keeps my mind working so I don’t get sleepy on the drive.
