The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #zones

April 24, 2016 meme, The Sunday Post 41

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

Randomness:

Two Sunday Posts in a row!  Now that is something I haven’t done for a while but it makes me feel so good to do just that.  The Sunday Post is part of my blogging rituals and I feel I’m really getting back into the zone.  It might look like I haven’t done much here this week but I have scheduled some posts and gotten 4 reviews written.  I’ve commented.  I’ve answered comments.  So I’m getting there!  Stick with me, I have lots more bookish thoughts to contribute 🙂

And you know I like to discuss all kinds of random things on here so today I’m talking housework!  A friend told me about a plan where you divide your house in to 4 zones and each week you spend 10 minutes in the zone either decluttering or doing some jobs you never get around to doing.  Just 10 minutes, weekdays only.  Get in, get it done, get out!  At the end of 4 weeks, you just repeat the cycle.  I’ve been concentrating on my bedroom this week and the difference is noticeable.  Do you follow a routine for housework?  If so let me know what works for you.

Books I have received to review:

Outstanding by Kathryn Flett

Thanks to Quercus Books for Outstanding by Kathryn Flett.  It’s set around an exclusive prep school in England and follows the life of the headmistress and her family, where all is far from happy families.  I’m intrigued by the setting and in love with the simple, elegant cover so I can’t wait to read this one.  Soon!

**************************************************************************************************************

Books I have bought:

None.  Good news because I have more than enough already to be reading.  But bad news because I didn’t get that new book buzz.  You know the one!

**********************************************************************************************************************************

Between the Lines is also on Facebook sharing details of kindle freebies and great giveaways as well as other random bits and pieces.  So if you use FB, please like my page and leave a comment so I can like you back!

Or join me on Instagram as I’m a wanna-be #bookstagrammer and I love taking photos of my books.  It is seriously one of my favourite things to do as soon as I get a new book.  I also have photos of my stationery hauls, my walks, my fitness journey and random photos of Ireland but if you only come for the books, that’s aok!

And my latest addiction is Snapchat!  I admit it I’m a sucker for social media 😀  This one is mostly about my weight loss journey (PS – I hit 3.5 stone lost lately and am on the final stretch to GOAL! )

So, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.

Happy Sunday Trish and hope your weekend is relaxing. Outstanding looks good, I thought from the cover maybe it was non fiction but then I saw your description. Sounds intriguing! And who doesn’t love prep school stuff? 🙂

I’m excited about Outstanding as that setting calls me! So cute that Sophia loves snapchat and is able to have fun with filters! Last thing I needed was another social media addiction but I’m having fun with it.

  3. Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

Outstanding looks really good, Trish, and I hope you’ll enjoy it!
I need to separate the house into zones to declutter a bit, too. The only problem I have is that after I declutter, my husband starts putting more things on the surfaces I just cleared 😀 We don’t really have the same idea about what is cluttering and what isn’t 😀
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

I hear you on the different opinions on clutter! I hate unnecessary stuff around the place but my husband insists on a large volume of newspapers, books, paper and all kinds of bits and bobs that he needs! Drives me crazy as it just looks untidy to me! And if I clear it, then he is put out as he can’t find anything 😀

I don’t really have a household routine, though I probably should. I tend to do the “oh no someone is going to visit so now I HAVE TO clean” dance. It works all right, unless no one comes over for a while and it all piles up ;D

    Have a good week Trish!

Oh I do that panicked tidy up too! I think we all do! I find having a clean house is good for me though as when it’s messy I just can’t relax properly. So I’m trying to find ways to keep it the way I want it but without spending too much time on it!

  5. Samantha

I totally don’t ‘get’ snapchat and it makes me feel so old! My students are all about it and I just don’t understand! hahaha! Oh well! Guess I will stick with good ole Facebook! (even Twitter is a bit too much for me-it all just goes so fast!) Have a great week!

I’m not a huge fan of twitter either, mostly because I can’t say anything in 140 characters! I didn’t really ‘get’ snapchat for a long time either but once I started using it, I got hooked! Have a good week 🙂

I love seeing your Sunday Posts again Trish!! 😉
A routine for housework?? Hmm… I really should have one but I don’t. Since my work schedule is different every week I don’t have a regular day off and I also don’t have a ‘normal’ rhythm to do things. So whenever I have a moment and feel like doing housework I just do as much as possible. But that also means I sometimes really neglect the housework. When we move to a bigger place, I definitely need to figure out a schedule though.
Have a great week and Happy Reading! 😉

I am lucky in that my job (and my life really!) is very routine based. So having a small routine going for housework too fits in well with my lifestyle. And I just want to do enough to keep everything ticking over till the weekend, and I do a blitz then. So nothing takes too much time, as I’ve far more interesting things to be doing with my time 😀

    • trish

I find lots of the people I follow on snapchat are the same age as me, so it’s really spread out from just the teen market now. I love it! So far my zone cleaning is going ok, lets see if I’m still doing it in 6 months! 😀

    • trish

I think we all need that reframing time now and again and then we come back refreshed and full of vigour.

    • trish

Thanks Molly! I didn’t design them myself but the artist captured exactly what I wanted when I described it to her and I love them!
The zones are going ok, as ok as housework ever goes! 😀

    • trish

Same as! Housework and me will never be friends so I just want to implement some sort of routine whether I can get it done in as short a time as possible but still have a cleanish house!

  7. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

The zone thing is definitely interesting. Right now I clean the bulk of the house on Monday and then do projects through the week but with the kids being out of school that’s not going to be possible and the zone thing would definitely work. Snapchat terrifies me though it looks fun. I’m not so great at social media but I have been thinking of getting an account there to see exactly what it is. Have a great week and thanks for the mention!

I do a blizt clean at the weekend so this is just something to keep everything ticking over without being too demanding of my time. So far, so good!
What is great about snapchat is that you can set up an account and just follow people without posting yourself. I’ll admit I lurked for a long time before I turned the camera around on myself! But I love it now, I get very energised by it.

    • trish

No Heather, come to snapchat, we need more bookish folks on there! I love IG as you know but snapchat is just so much more real which is what I love about it.

I’ll have a look for those products, I love anything that smells nice. And of course eco friendly is good too!

  8. Deborah

I’ve heard something similar re housework Trish – or even where you do 10-15mins batches of cleaning.

Sadly I’m prepping for house photos for my place going on the market and I’m doing a BIG clean and I hate it. I’m sore and tired and it’s taking forever!

    And yes… I’m a sook!

I’m not a fan of housework and never will be. So quick, short blasts work for me!

Getting ready for a house sale is my idea of hell. Hopefully all the hard work is behind you now and your house is looking fab!

  9. Steph

I love the zone idea, but I just tend to do things on the weekend. Sunday is normally our ‘lazy’ day for video games and reading so I normally throw laundry in and run the dishwasher at that time and I pick up all week I guess to it isn’t ever too much. Maybe I will have to try it though.

    • trish

I do a blitz at the weekend too so this is my extra bits just to keep it all ticking over. I like the sound of your Sundays!

    • trish

I wish I couldn’t sit still! That is definitely not my problem 😉 But it does work, I get to keep on top of things daily and then at the weekend do one proper blitz of everywhere but I never waste too much time on it!

    • trish

Thanks Lauren, I’m still trying to find a routine that works for me blogwise as I have less time than I used to. But I’m getting there 🙂

  10. Cynthia @ Bingeing On Books

I love that plan for housework! I have no plan. I just randomly do different areas of my house at different times. Maybe I should do that whole 4 zone thing. I like it. I also have not really bought any books lately (other than one or two on Amazon because they were having a great deal). I have SO MANY BOOKS that I own, but haven’t read yet. I am trying really hard to focus on those.

Thanks so much for spotlighting my discussion post!

I think the zone thing would work perfectly for you Cynthia as you always seem like such a disciplined person to me.

Obviously books bought in Amazon sales don’t count! 😉

    • trish

It’s Wednesday now and I hardly even remember what I did at the weekend! I seem to have a goldfish brain these days 🙂
Zoning is working for me so far but it’s only week 2. We’ll see!

  11. Lola

That’s great this is your second Sunday post in a row and you managed to get some reviews written and post scheduled! You’re doing great!

That’s an interesting way to handle housework. I don’t really have a plan for most things, although I do have a schedule for on which days I cook (I cook enough for two days usually) and on which days I do the laundry. Most of the cleaning is my boyfriend’s task and the rest is more of a whenever we feel like doing it type of plan. I might give this a try, the concept of only spending 10 minutes each day sounds doable to, so it won’t eat up too much time.

Thanks for linking to my post about the obligatory break-up scene :). I hope you’re having a good week!
