Book Review: November 9 by Colleen Hoover

January 27, 2016 Book review 10 ★★★★★

I seriously think that Colleen Hoover has one aim in life and that is to set a record for how many people in the world she can make cry. Yet again, she reeled me, made me fall in love with her characters and then squeezed my heart till it hurt.

First Line of November 9 by Colleen Hoover:

“I wonder what kind of sound it would make if I were to smash this glass against the side of his head.”

My Thoughts on November 9 by Colleen Hoover:

Let’s just state the obvious first – I loved it. I loved the characters, I loved the romance, I loved the book theme and I loved the way the book was set up so that the characters would meet every year on November 9.

As it’s a Colleen Hoover book, if you’ve ever read one before, you will know there are some plot twists ahead. That’s all I’ll say on that.

My favourite part was that the book itself takes a swipe at all those book troupes that we love to hate – insta-love, cliffhangers, and romantic angst. It was like an inside joke and I thought it was hilarious the way it was done. And yes Fallon and Ben have that insta-connection but they gave their love room to grow and develop and I fully believed in them.

“Oh, it was still insta-love,” I tell her. “But ours is legit.”

Fallon and Ben are two very appealing characters, both have past issues they are dealing with but it’s easy to have faith in them to pull though. There is also a fab supporting cast including a couple of much loved characters from Ugly Love which made me very happy.

And the other thing you need to know is that you’ll need a therapy session after reading this book. There is SO MUCH TRAUMA. My emotions took a battering and half. But when my heart wasn’t bleeding feels, I was roaring with laughter or swooning like a teenager.

Such a rollercoaster of a read but I loved every chapter. I smiled big, I cried hard and made a pledge to auto -buy every book that Colleen Hoover ever writes.

This book has been seriously tempting me lately. Colleen Hoover is an author I’ve heard tons of raves about and this one definitely pulls at me. I love that it kind of pokes fun at the stereotypical tropes. I’m looking forward to reading this. Should I start therapy now to prepare for it?

Not sure what to think of that first line, that sounds pretty random, but I am sure it makes more sense when reading the book. I have this one on my to-read list, but haven’t bought it yet. I have only read Colleen Hoover book so far and that’s Hopeless and I really enjoyed that one, but just haven’t had the urge yet to buy another one of her books, although I have some of them on my to-read list.

Many reviews mention how emotional her books are. I am not always in the mood for a book like that, but I do think it’s great when a author can write like that. It sounds fun how it pokes fun at stereotypes, although sometimes hints to the real world like that can get me out of the story when they aren’t well done. Oh and I like the sound of the plot twists! Great review!

I LOVE the first line of this review and totally agree with you. Every single one of her books has had me in tears too, but I love it!
This book has to be one of my favourites of hers. It was just such a unique story, and just like you I couldn’t help but LOVE the characters. Plus that TWIST! WOW! So much love for this book, and for your excellent review!

Great review! I downloaded this book to join the Facebook club but then my account got hacked and I deleted Facebook and haven’t rejoined. I forgot I have it, but now that I read your review I want to get to it sooner rather than later. I’m branching out this year to more eclectic titles, and I like angsty stories.

Ms. Hoover sounds like a hoot– what a fun personality and that can shine through in her writing style. Thanks again.
