The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #85

September 20, 2015 meme 50

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kim the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

Randomness:

So biggest thing first!  My new blog design is here!  I have so many feels about this (all good!), I just flipping love it!  I love the illustration as it just captures so many things I love – reading (obvs!), being outside, cats, comfy clothes, flat shoes.  This is all so me and I love that it makes my blog seem so personal to me.  Huge thanks to Anna at Anna Marie Moore Designs who somehow managed to understand what I wanted based only on the vaguest of descriptions.

Next update!  This is a weight loss one but it’s non scales related.  My wedding and engagement rings fit again.  I haven’t worn them for about 2 years and I really missed them.  Now I keep looking at my hand and smiling, it’s a visual representation of just how far I’ve come and it motivates me to work even harder to get to where I want to be.

ARC update : So I’ve gone from 26 to 26.  What!  I read 6 and added back in 6 newbies.  This is why it’s so hard to keep on top of those ARC piles, it’s too tempting to add them back it!  So I’m at stalemate but I love the look of them all so I’m ok with that!  Next week I’ll be good!

#FitReaders is hosted by Geeky Bloggers Book Blog  and That’s What I’m Talking About

I set myself a goal this week!  I wanted to walk 90,000 steps over 7 days and if I met my goal I was giving myself permission to have a little splurge on Etsy.  So I added some planner supplies into my shopping cart and then it was all up to me!  Nothing like a little motivation to get me moving!  And it worked!

Total steps : 90.9K steps *flops over*  That was tough!

Books I have received to review:

With Our Blessing Christmas at Lilac Cottage Ideal Girl Cam Girl What You Left BehindFitness after 40

Books I have Bought!

Rites of Passage

Just the one.  I went with Rites of Passage with my Audible credit as I’ve seen some good reviews for it.

That’s exactly the look I was going for Greg, so I’m glad that is what is coming across! Looking forward to those books too 😀

Sure am doing HoHoHo RAT, I think it’s my third year and it’s one of my fav readathons. Can’t wait to curl up with some Christmassy reads 🙂

    • trish

Thanks Megan, I’m really happy with it too! And yay so excited that I get to wear my rings again, I had nearly forgotten how much I love them!

    • trish

I love that the design means something to me, even if people visiting don’t get that, it still feels good to me!
Cam Girl was …..different….very different. I enjoyed it a lot and will have a review up nearer the review date.

Thanks Katherine! I’ve started stock piling books for the HoHoHo Readathon so I had to request that one! With Our Blessing sounds scary and I can’t wait to read that one either.

  1. Lola

I love your new blog design, the more I look at it the mroe I like. I like all the soft colours and how that girl is sitting outside reading with her cat. I do have to get used to your sidebar beign on the other side.

I am always impressed with how designers can make a design exactly how you want based on a vague description. My description for Lola’s Blog Tours design was basically green magic and the designer got exactly the feel and design I was looking for.

I have the same problem with review copies I keep reading them and then add new ones just as fast. Your new books look good. I especially like the cover for Christmas at Lilac Cottage, it looks so comfy and cute! I hope you have a great week!

Thanks Lola, I love soft colours and I wanted lots of white space too as I find that easier when I’m working on my blog. And I’m not 100% sure on the location of the sidebar still, I might still move it back to the right! I’m seeing if I get used to it 🙂
I suppose that is what makes good designers good at what they do. They seem to understand what we are trying to achieve and they know how to turn that into an image. Like magic!
It’s so hard to resist great sounding review books! So I don’t! LOL

  2. Rita @ View From My Home

I’ll say it again– great blog design, and kudos to your graphic designer for her input!

So happy for you to have your rings fit again. That must be a great visual proof of your journey each time you look down on them 🙂

With Our Proof and Lilac Cottage look good to me. Will check them out further. Have a good and productive week ahead!

I’m no good at design Rita and so I was happy to turn the work over to a professional! It’s the first time I’ve changed the blog since I started so it feels good to have it all spruced up! Just like home renovations 😀
I think both those books sound great too and I’m looking forward to them.

    • trish

I was SO lazy during Bloggiesta yesterday and today I’m working more on visiting my Sunday Post peeps so not my most successful bloggiesta! But I’ll keep plugging away on those goals 🙂

    • trish

I think the same about With Our Blessing, it’s set around mother/baby homes so I know it’s going to be harrowing but it sounds so good! And thanks 🙂

  3. Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

Your new blog design is gorgeous, Trish! Well done to both you and Anna!

Congrats on being able to wear your wedding and engagement rings again! Sometimes weight loss isn’t just about the actual weight. And you totally rocked your fit challenge.

Your new books look great – isn’t it amazing how we keep adding books so the TBR never shrinks? I’ve read Rites of Passage, and I really enjoyed it. I hope listening to it will be enjoyable as well 😀

I think focusing too much on the scales can be a bit destructive so I prefer to note all the smaller ways that I’m feeling better. That is so much more rewarding!
I’m loving Rites of Passage and I’m a bit disappointed to see that the author has no other books as I’d buy them in a heartbeat!

    • trish

Thanks Grace, even now a few days later, I’m still really excited about the look of my refurbished blog! What You Left Behind is a great read and I’m so glad I went ahead and requested it. Cam Girl is pretty good and very disturbing!

    • trish

Thanks Amy! I’m so happy about both things! 🙂 Oh and you are posting about Sherlock, I have to come check that out!

    • trish

It really does, everytime I look at my ring finger, I think ‘ok now, keep going!’. So it’s really motivating. Thanks on your comments on the design, I’m really happy with it.

  4. Deborah

I LOVE the new design Trish. It’s clean and clear and very very cute!

You’ve got some interesting books there, but as importantly – great news on being able to get your rings back on. I know those sorts of milestones feel wonderful so great work.

Thanks Deborah, it had become normal for me not to wear my rings but now that they fit again, it makes me so happy. I had forgotten how much I loved them! So it’s really inspiring me to keep going.

    • trish

Good to hear you knee is ok again Jess. Mine has been giving some trouble lately 🙁 Which is annoying so I’ve switched from running to walk/run/walk which I don’t like half as much but I’m hoping this will ease the discomfort and I’m working on some exercise to help alleviate the trouble too. Fingers crossed!
I doubt we’ll ever get caught up on those arcs but we are trying!

    • trish

Thanks Bea, I’m so happy to be wearing my rings again, I had forgotten how much I love them! I’m always trying to balance those arcs but it’s so hard not to add in all the books! I think we can all relate to that struggle :O

    • trish

I think I’ve confused a few people lately! I’m just happy that my ARC pile isn’t increasing, that’s my goal for now!

    • trish

The funny thing was I probably would have bought the planner supplies anyway but I tricked myself into believing I couldn’t until I did the steps! And when I make a bargain, I know I’ll fulfil it! 🙂

    • trish

I need to try and keep it up now this week 😀 I normally average about 11K per day so uping it from that was hard but not as hard as I thought it would be. Someday I want to hit 20K steps in a day but it’s never happened yet. Someday!

  5. Bookworm Brandee

I love your new design, Trish! It’s the first thing I noticed. 🙂 I’m glad it makes you smile and reflects YOU so well. Congrats on the weight loss. I’ve not done well with updates for Fit Readers but honestly, I’ve worked so hard and haven’t lost a pound. So I’m really happy for you!! 😀 Good work with the ARCs – even if you added some, you also got some read. That’s great! I hope you’re having a wonderful week.

    • trish

Thanks Brandee! I love my design too and the fact that it feels personal to me just makes it meaningful. Even if no else ever gets that connection, I will! That sucks that you have worked hard and it hasn’t reflected in the scales but you know what I rarely weigh myself. I just go by how my clothes fit and how good all that exercising and healthy eating make me feel. I think a disappointing result on the scales make me want to quit and even if I was feeling amazing up to that point, suddenly I’m feeling it’s not working. So now I use things other than the scales to chart my progress!
