Trish Transforms : A change of focus!

August 4, 2015 Trish Transforms 20

Trish Transforms is my project for 2015.  I want to get fitter, I want to get leaner and I want to enjoy the journey. Dieting doesn’t have to be hell and this isn’t a diet anyway, I want to make changes for good. So I’m going to document my random thoughts along the way in an effort to inspire and motivate myself.

I’m not the most regular in posting these updates but that doesn’t mean that I’ve fallen off the wagon.  It’s the opposite really, the process for Transforming Trish is going great!  So far I’ve lost 45 pounds and I feel like a new person.  I still have more to lose but my energy levels are through the roof and I’m loving how I’m back in lots of my old clothes.

As the year has gone out, I’ve just gotten more and more in to clean eating and trying to make the best nutritional choices that I can.  Instagram has been a huge part of that as I wrote about previously and it continues to inform, educate and motivate me.  And lately I’ve found my focus has moved away from weight watchers and counting points and just more about eating healthy.

I’ve no issues with weight watchers but I just find it’s not what I need for this part of my journey.  Instead I’ve been using the My Fitness Pal app to track all my food and exercise and I’m in love with it.  It seems so much easier to just count calories instead of working out points and I’m all for anything that simplifies my life.  Other advantages are a huge database, you can scan barcodes on foods and it’s FREE!

It also shows you the nutritional content of what you are eating on a weekly and daily basis.  As both my parents are diabetic, I’m always trying to be aware of what my sugar content is and MyFitnessPal makes this very easy.

I think when it comes to losing weight, there is no wrong way to do it (assuming you are making healthy choices of course), you just have to find what works for you.  I’m someone who likes visual feedback and I’m a lister so tracking via an app is perfect for me.  It’s a huge part of why weight watchers did work for me and now I feel My Fitness Pal is making everything even easier.  So watch out remaining flab, your days are numbered!

Talk to Trish : Do you use My Fitness Pal?  Or do you track your food in anyway?  What plan is working for you?

Aw, thank you Grace! I really need to focus on this long term and so I want a plan that I can live with for the rest of my life as I know just how easy it is to put the weight back on. Been there, done that, have learnt my lesson!

I wish Rachel! Believe me there is plenty of meat left on these bones! But I feel a lot better in myself and I know my goal is in reach. Slow and steady wins the race 🙂

I have the same project as yours 😉 If we don’t take care of our own body, who will ? I don’t use any apps, except one for exercizing in the morning that I got for free on Amazon. Regarding food, I don’t keep track of anything I eat, I just eat healthy food and when I’m not hungry any more, I stop eating 🙂 You’re right, the only thing that’s good is what works for you so you don’t feel obligated to eat this or that, it’s something that we aim to do in the long run, so let’s make it pleasurable ! Congrats on your weight loss !

Exactly Iza, we have to make a priority if it’s something we want because no one else can do the work for us! I love your method, that is what I’m aiming at long term. Just focusing on healthy food and listening to my own body cues.

Haha, that was my approach too but it didn’t work so well for me! But moving around lots to compensate does help a lot.

I hope so Bea, I have a history of gaining and losing weight and I just want to beat that for once and for all.

Wonderful news, Trish! You look great and sound like life is great. I have been gaining a few here and there, and eating some junk or just too much grazing and that is bumming me out, but I can’t beat myself up. I know from past experience that if I go that way, then I’ll say the heck with it all and just munch away. Congrats again.

I’ve done that too Rita and I’m trying really hard to break the cycle of gaining and losing weight. I’m hoping that just concentrating on mostly healthy eating and including treats will help me lose the weight and keep it off for good. I think not beating yourself up is a very healthy approach, loosening the reins is good from time to time and after all its what you eat most of the time is what really matters.

Aw thanks Shaina, you’re so nice!

And I’m following you back on IG now, I hadn’t realised you were on there 🙂

Wow! 45 pounds is impressive! Great job! I used Weight Watchers for awhile but it ended up not really working for me either. I used My Fitness Pal for awhile and liked it but I decided I liked the app for Lose It a little bit better and now that I’ve gotten re-dedicated (again) I’m using that to track my calories. I definitely agree with the whatever works mentality (as long as it’s healthy of course) because we’re all so different what works for you might not work for me and vice versa.

Exactly Katherine and even the same approach might not work always for the same person. No harm at all in mixing it up so it doesn’t get boring. I was still losing weight on WW, I just felt like I needed to shake things up a bit!
