The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #82

August 23, 2015 meme 50

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

Randomness:

This was a bit of a meh week.  I have been having sinus issues and feeling just blah all week.  I even missed out on a meal out with some friends as I just knew I was feeling too rotten to enjoy it.  Instead I’ve been snuggled up at home every evening reading which has been great for getting through my ARCs but I just want to feel better now.

One thing happened this week that made me laugh though.  While driving to work, I was listening to my audiobook and something happened which seemed impossible to me.  So I rang my husband, explained the plot and we spent 15 minutes debating the logistics of it.  Things like that make me realise all over again just why I married him!

Monday to Wednesday, I was reaching my 10k steps a day and more.  But on Thursday, my fitbit just stopped working.  I also started to feel a lot sicker around then so I haven’t even tried to fix it yet.  I’m hoping just resetting it and charging it will do that.  I have been walking my parents dog though so even though I’m not exercising much until I feel better, I’m still doing a little.

Books I have received to review:

House of DreamsA Hollow in the Hills

Thanks to NetGalley and Orion Books for House of Dreams.  A family get together in Spain and lots of drama and secrets to be spilled.  Of course I wanted this one!

Thanks to The O’Brien Press for A Hollow in the Hills.  This is a YA fantasy series by an Irish author.  I have book 1 to read too so I’m looking forward to reading both of these soon.

Books I have Bought!

Ugly LoveRed QueenCaptive in the Dark

Audible were having a sale where you could get 2 books for 1 credit.  Oh they know how to suck me in!

Ugly Love is one I’ve been slow to pick up.  I ADORE Colleen Hoover but something about this book never appealed to me.  But I gave in and so we’ll see!

Red Queen has been on my wishlist for a while and I know by buying the audio version that I’ll get to it sooner.

Captive in the Dark was free on Amazon and has some great reviews by some of my GR friends so I grabbed it up.  It was still free this morning so I have added the amazon link in case you want to check it out.  Do double-check price before buying though!

I have been meaning to read Ruth Long’s YA series with a while so now that I have book 2, it has kicked me in to action. I plan to check it out soon! I’m the same about Red Queen, I’ve seen mixed reviews so I need to make my own mind up about it!

  1. Lola

I am sorry to hear you had a meh week and had a sinus infection. I hope you’re feeling a bit better now. That is nice you got extra time to read. I often talk with my boyfriend about things in books that make no sense, it’s nice to be able to talk with someone about things like that even though he reads different books we can still talk about books together.
Thanks for linking to my post :). You got some good looking books this week. I saw Captive in the Dark was free, but not sure if it’s a book for me. I hope this wil be a good week for you!

Thanks Lola, yes I enjoyed the extra reading time but I did miss my normal routine like the gym. I love talking to my husband about books, we never read the same books but I love his take on what I’m thinking.
I don’t even know if Captive in the Dark is for me! But I’ll give it a try 🙂

    • trish

I’m so looking forward to Red Queen, I remember you mentioning a strong female character and I’m all for that!

    • trish

I know, I was glad to have some evenings reading but then I was missing out on my normal evening events. But I was in no form for anything else and at least reading is something to distract yourself with when you don’t feel great.

    • trish

He doesn’t read the books but he’s always happy to discuss the plots and my issues with the plots. I love using him as a sounding board if something annoys me in my current read! Yes sinsusitis is no fun 🙁

A Hollow In The Hills looks fantastic. Must check that one out. I hope you feel better soon. It seems a lot of people are having sinus issues right now.
How lucky you are to have your husband share your passion for stories. I talk to my dog and cat. LOL My dog tries to act like he’s listening and my cat just closes her eyes and goes to sleep!

A Hollow in the Hills is part 2 in a series so I’m hoping to read both books soon. They are a YA fantasy and that’s a genre I enjoy so I’m hoping I’ll love them!
LOL re your dog and cat!

  3. Laurel-Rain Snow

I enjoyed Ugly Love, which surprised me, as I don’t read much YA…and had never read this author.

Love the look of House of Dreams.

Hope your sinuses clear…I have had my personal struggles with sinuses…not so much now, although asthma has taken its place…LOL.

How great that you can discuss books with your husband…none of mine were at all useful that way. LOL.

Is Ugly Love YA, I had a feeling it was adult contemporary more than anything? But it’s the only Colleen Hoover book that I haven’t read yet. I love how she gets me to feel all the emotions! Asthma is no finer either :O LOL re your husbands!

    • trish

I don’t know why I’m so nervous about Ugly Love, I love Colleen and should just trust her not to disappoint me!

I must try to fix my Fitbit later. It happened before and it was ok once I reset and charged it so fingers crossed!

  4. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Let me know what you think of the Red Queen in audio! My library has it and like you I know I’ll get to an audio much faster than a book. I’m sorry to hear about your sinus trouble. I’m actually not having too much trouble right now but I know it’s coming. Hope you feel better soon and that you have a much better week!

Urrggh, I’ve only had sinus problems for the last few years but they are pretty miserable. Really looking forward to Red Queen, like you I know I’ll get to it sooner as I have it on audiobook.

    • trish

Thanks Shaina, I’m a bit better today. Not really sick just not feeling 100% but it’s only a small thing really.

    • trish

I know there is always a silver lining, right?! I hope we enjoy Captive in the Dark, it sounds…intense! :O

  5. S. J. Pajonas

Sorry you were feeling blah this past week, but it’s nice to be able to fall back on personal time with books and your feet up at home! I’m listening to The Martian again on audiobook and enjoying it even more the second time around. Such fun to listen to!

I’ve heard great things about The Martian and it says a lot that you are reading it for the second time. By the way, your pool photos on IG make me so jealous! Looks like you are having a fab summer.

    • trish

I’ve just started Ugly Love and thought it started well! I don’t think I’ve listened to Fantasy on audio before so I’m hoping it will work out for me, I’m nervous about getting lost in the world building as I’m used to flicking back pages to double check things when I read Fantasy. We’ll see.

    • trish

They have their uses 🙂 Love that I’m burning through those ARCs! And you’re welcome, it was a great post with some great comments.

  6. Sharon

    Hope you’re feeling better.
I loved Ugly Love and I hope you do to. I’ve had Captive in the Dark sitting on my kindle for ages, and must get to that soon.
Hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books.

I’ve just started Ugly Love and I’m enjoying it so far! And I hope we both love Captive in the Dark whenever we get to it 🙂

My husband is loving audiobooks lately but we don’t really have the same taste in books. He is good for listening to me talk about mine though!

  7. Deborah

Oh Trish, how lovely that you and your husband can discuss books like that! Is he a reader as well, or just a good sounding board I wonder?

Hope this week’s not quite as meh!

    • trish

He reads (via audiobooks mostly) but we don’t really have the same taste in books. So he is just my sounding board but it works!
      And thank you 🙂

  8. Wattle

I hope you enjoy all your new reads. Ah audiobooks, I keep forgetting they are a thing. Although I just realised they would be perfect for plane travel, I get too antsy to read books if I’m stuck sitting still for hours, and I’ve been wondering what I’m going to do with myself on my upcoming trip aside from trying to sleep; I think I know now!

It sounds like you’ve found your perfect match with your husband! 🙂

I hope you’re feeling better soon <3 sinus issues are no fun 🙁

I resisted audiobooks for years but I’ve been addicted to them for the last 12 months. I bet if you start listening to one on a plane that you’ll get hooked!

  9. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

I saw the audible sale yesterday and was bummed out that I had to miss it because the 1 credit I did have was to use on a review book, lol. I grabbed Captive in the Dark as well!

It’s great that you have such a great match for a husband. One of my favorite things about my boyfriend is the fact that he listens to me tell him about books and actually listens.

That’s a pity that you missed out on the sale, I loved that you could pick any two books rather than a restricted choice. Hope we both enjoy Captive in the Dark, it sounds very dark but I like that! Glad you have a willing ear around you too 🙂

  10. Bookworm Brandee

Oh, I hope you’re feeling better, Trish. Your story about the audio book and your husband made me smile. My hubs is always willing to listen to me go on about a book – but it’s always nice when we can discuss something in detail. 🙂 Yay for Captive in the Dark. It is a dark read but one I recommend. 🙂

Oh good I’m glad to know that you enjoyed Captive in the Dark, I’m good with dark reads! And this one intrigued me as it seems to be a love or hate read judging by my GoodReads friends. And chatting about books with willing husbands is the best 🙂

    • trish

He doesn’t do it all the books but this plothole as I saw it was physics based and I knew he’d be all over that!
