The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #73

August 2, 2015 meme 33

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

Another month bites the dust but July was a pretty great month for me, I was on holidays and despite some blah weather, we still had a ball.  We travelled around Ireland and I spent loads of time on beaches.  Irish style, well wrapped up!  But they are my happy place and I loved every moment of my much treasured free time.

Book wise, I read 13 books which I’m happy enough with.  My reading has slowed down a lot from last year but I’m happier reading at a slower pace and reading a little less instead of trying to race through the books as fast I can.  Slow and steady wins the race; right?!

Blog wise, as I was on hols I took a bit of a break.  But I was fully back into it last week.  I still have a zillion comments to catch up on so thanks for bearing with me there, I have read them all and I’m working my way through the replies.  I also introduced 2 new features and talked about some changes and August is going to see me implement those properly.

And I’ve lots of other plans for August too.  My new blog redesign is definitely coming this month and I’m so excited about it, it’s just cute and simple and I adore it.  I’m taking part in an photo challenge on Instagram, it’s a healthy eating themed one and I love how much challenges like this inspire and motivate me.  I’m also doing a squat challenge, ouch I can feel the pain already!  Plus I have some great books to get though.  Welcome August!

This was a great week and I’m really proud of how consistent I was.  Thanks to a Fitbit challenge that I took part in, these really keep me on my toes and stepping!

As it has been a few weeks since my last Sunday Post, I’ll just go with weekly steps this time.

This week (6 days, todays are yet to be done!) : 72.8K

Last week : 98.2K (yay, lots of holiday steps!)

Prev week: 96.8K

Books I have received to review:

A Game for all the family

Thanks to Bookbridgr and Hodder & Stoughton for A Game for All The Family.  Sophie is one of my very favourite psychological thriller writers and so this arc was met with squeals of excitement.

Books I have Bought!

Fresh HellThe Lost and the found

Fresh Hell was an impulse buy.  I know nothing about it, I never heard of the author, I’ve read no reviews but I picked it up in the bookshop and it made me laugh so I decided to give it a shot.

The Lost and Found by Cat Clarke sounds very mysterious and I love Cat so this was an auto buy.

Well, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.   How was your week?  Any books you were really excited about?

We all need it Tonya, those batteries need recharging! Hope you find some time to do it yourself soon. And I can’t wait to show off my new design!

It was bliss Shaina, nothing like some time out of everyday life. Can’t wait to launch my new design in a few weeks!

I can’t wait to show off the new design Grace, it should be ready in about 2 weeks. Fingers crossed! And you are right, 13 books isn’t too dusty at all 🙂

  2. Lola

You live in a beautifull country, I am glad to hear you had a fun vacation. Great pictures! I think 13 books is great for one month. I am reading abut 8-10 books each month, not a lot, but it works for me.

I can’t wait to see your new blog design and the other changes you are planning for your blog!

The cover for Fresh Hell looks great. Sometimes those impulse buys are the best, it can feel nice to just buy a book because it sounds good, without thinking too much about it. I hope you have a great week and enjiy your new books!

Thanks Lola! I don’t tend to do a lot of impulse buys nowadays as usually I have a wishlist of books that I’ve read great reviews for. But it felt like fun just to browse and pick up a book I know nothing about. Very retro!
I’m so excited about my book design so keep an eye out for it in about 2 weeks time 🙂

  3. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Glad you had a good time on vacation! The pictures of Ireland are so beautiful they don’t even look real. I absolutely cannot wait to visit. I have a Sophie Hannah book that I haven’t read yet but am looking forward to it. The only one I’ve read is her Poirot book and while I liked it it was hard to get a feel for her writing since I was mostly comparing that one to Agatha. Have a great week!

I know I’m biased but Ireland is very pretty! I think you’ll love it whenever you do make the trip 🙂
And Sophie Hannah is such a good writer, her plots and characters are very intelligent and I love that about them. Most of her books are part of a series but this one is a standalone.

  4. Rita @ View From My Home

Glad you had a fun and relaxing holiday and I look forward to seeing more of your new blog features implemented and the new design! It’s always fun and productive to creativity to shake things up 🙂 The Lost and Found book looks good to me.

I really love shaking my blog up from time to time, it is what keeps me from getting bored and keeps blogging fresh for me. Such a fun holiday, I really feel revived now and ready to get stuck into August!

    • trish

Aw, that’s so nice to hear! Hope you get your hands on the new SH book soon, it looks fab! And I really love that this one is a standalone.

    • trish

I’m delighted with all my upcoming changes, they just make me feel like I’m evolving as a blogger and it’s keeping it all exciting for me 🙂

  5. Deborah

Oh, I’m keen to get the Sophie Hannah as well. Wonder when it’s out here in Oz.

Love the pics again! I’m glad you had a nice break and keen to see what changes you have in store for August.

I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the Sophie Hannah book, it sounds great! And I’m so excited about my upcoming changes as it keeps everything fresh around here!

This blog post was brought to you by the Irish Tourist Board 🙂 LOL

So excited about my new blog design, coming soon!

  6. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

I love picking up books I know nothing about. It’s so rare that I do it now because blogging sort of makes it nearly impossible at times, but it’s all I use to do and I miss it. It’s so nice to go into a book without expectations.
It looks like you had a wonderful month Trish! I hope August treats you just as well.

I can’t remember the last time I just bought a book blind, it felt very retro! It make me laugh when I flicked through it so fingers crossed it will be as good as I thought on first glance.
