The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Randomness:

So I bought a Fitbit and have joined the Fitbit gang!  I wanted one for a while but was afraid it would just be a gimmick that I would spend money on but never really use.  Plus I’m already fairly active between the gym and running but still I figured uping my activity during the day could only be good.

The verdict?  I’ve only had it since Thursday afternoon but I think I’m addicted.  I already know it’s making me take more steps and I’m doing little things like parking further away in carparks.  And it feels like a game as you get badges and get to see many steps friends are taking and when you are competitive like I am, that makes me want to do more.  So big thumps up.  If you use Fitbit and want to be friends, let me know in the comments.

I’m taking part in two challenges :

BlogAhead hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup : So far I’ve just got one post scheduled. I thought I’d be a bit further ahead but honestly I wasn’t in the mood for blogging yesterday and I’m never going to force it to come.

CleanSweepArc hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer: I’ve started my first book – No Other Darkness by Sarah Hilary and so far I’m enjoying it.  A lot!

Oh, a couple of books I like the look of there! ‘No Other Darkness’ looks good, as does ‘How I Lost You’. Keen to hear what you think!

Im nearly finished No Other Darkness and it is dark and chilling! But oh-so-good. And I know I’ll be reading How I Lost You very very soon as that tagline has made me so curious.

  2. Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog

I have a fitbit too but I haven’t worn in it in a while. I will have to get back at it! I love the cover of The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets so I will have to check it out. Tell the Wolves I’m Home is up there as one of my favorite books ever – I hope you enjoy it. Have a wonderful week!

I’m hoping I won’t lose interest in my Fitbit but for now I’m loving it! Good to know re Tell the Wolves I’m Home, I’m looking forward to that one more than ever now 🙂

  3. Lola

I also joined Blog Ahead as it helped me a lot last year, but I haven’t written any posts yet. Like you I don’t force myself to blog and I am sure I will get some blogging inspiration this week. Enjoy your new books and have a great week! And good luck with those two blogging challenges!

I know, forcing it is one way to make it a chore. Like you I know if I wait, the mood will come and the posts will be all the better for it! Good luck with Blog Ahead.

I’ve been seeing a lot of bloggers participating in Blog Ahead or something like it! It sounds like a great idea.

How I Lost You sounds interesting.. That tag line… O_O

I was really keen to join in BlogAhead but somehow this weekend blogging was last on my priorities so it just didn’t happen.
And I know I can’t wait to get to How I Lost you!

    • trish

Yay, hope you join in. It’s a fun, no pressure challenge and it’s great to get a little ahead 🙂

  5. Wattle

The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets is so good! I hope you enjoy it! I’m forever upset that I loaned my copy to someone years ago, and they never gave it back 🙁 in fact, I recently decided it was time to suck it up and buy a new copy!

I’ve been thinking about getting a fitbit for a while now too, but haven’t quite got around to it yet. Maybe soon, if only to force myself to do more exercise! (I can always use a push).

Good luck with your challenges 🙂

I’ve just realised my copy of The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets is autographed so I’m very happy about that. And glad to hear you love it so much, I’ll hopefully get to it this week now.
I think we can all use the exercise push! I like this because you see how many steps your friends are taking and who wants to be bottom of the leaderboard??!!

I’ve been interested in fitbit but I can’t see wearing the thing. I am pretty particular about jewelry. It would be good to see how much my home improvement and gardening helps my fitness. I was trying to gain some weight last month so didn’t do much cardio.

I got a tiny one Steph (FitBit One) that I just clip on to my waistband or my bra or stick in my pocket. Like you I’m fussy about jewelry and didn’t want the bracelet type. I bet you clock up loads of steps with the home improvement and gardening 🙂

  7. Michelle @ In Libris Veritas

I love the cover of Tell the Wolves I’m Home! I thought about getting a Fitbit, but I would be excited about for about a week or two and then it would be forgotten about. I’ve stopped working out yet again…so I’m back to having no muscle definition because I have to eat so much each day, lol. It’s really an uphill battle now.

I feel in love with the cover of Tell the Wolves I’m Home too and the name also, I kind of love wolves. I wish I had to eat more every day :O LOL

  8. Rita @ View From My Home

Okay, How I Lost You looks like super creepy fun! I also have heard so many good things about Tell The wolves I’m Home, but perhaps it’s a melancholy read…would have to be in the mood for it.

Congrats on your continued success with the fitness. I’m not active enough to justify the cost of a Fitbit–and I go to the doctor enough to have my vitals checked very often 🙂 but I am thinking of getting a rather basic pedometer and trying to get myself competitive enough to beat my step count each week. Thanks for the food for thought.

Enjoy your week, and I agree, never force the blogging or you will burn out as I did a few years ago and sadly deleted an active book blog with a way larger following than I have right now. At least I learned from my mistake 😉

The FitBit was dear and I made a bargain with myself that I have to use it everyday to justify the cost of it. I don’t mind the expense though as long as it doesn’t become a dust collector in my house. So far I love it as I love seeing how many steps my friends are taking and it makes me want to do a few more too. I do think a pedometer would do the same thing motivation wise though 🙂
And yes when it comes to blogging I find working to a how-I-feel schedule works best! And taking breaks whenever I want stops that burnout that we all feel from time to time. Thanks for sharing your story though as it’s always good to be reminded of that.

    • trish

I’m loving it Kim! And like you say it’s making me up my game as I’m so keen to beat my previous day 🙂

    • trish

So far I love it Bea and wish I had bought one sooner! The real test will be how I feel in a months time though 🙂 I really don’t want it to become an expensive dust collector.

  9. Kristin T.

Yay for getting a fitbit!!! I love mine – have had it for a few years now and it definitely makes me more aware of how active I am. If you’re looking for friends my email for my fitbit is kafullam(at)yahoo(dot)com.

The Sarah Hilary book sounds really good – will be looking forward to reading your review of it.

    Have a great week!

Yay, will send you a Fitbit request 🙂 It’s so much fun and I love that you have had yours a few years and are still enthusiastic about it.
The Sarah Hilary book is very dark and chilling and I love it so far!

    • trish

Well it sounds like you don’t need a fitbit as you already do loads! It would be fun to see the figure though 🙂

    • trish

Funny enough at about 11 o’clock last night I got a second wind and got 3 posts scheduled! Delighted 🙂

    • trish

I’m a really competitive person anyway so this brings out the best (worst?) in me! Which is good as it all means extra exercise for me!

  10. Bookworm Brandee

Ooh, I want a fitbit! I got a Misfit Flash for Christmas – it already died! Plus, I didn’t feel like it really calculated how much I was working out…I’m doing a bootcamp class and when I used the flash for it, it’d say I did mild exercise. Hmph! I’m glad you’re enjoying your fitbit. 🙂

Tell the Wolves I’m Home is on my tbr. I hope you enjoy it! And I hope you’re having a great week, Trish!

Fitbit are the bomb! I’m such a convert after only a few days, I have checked it a few times and it seems really accurate with my steps and I just find it so motivating that I can see my friends activity too, it spurs me on to do more. And silly MisFit, as if bootcamp could be mild exercise! I’m thinking of doing a weekly bootfit class as they look like a lot of fun and my gym is running them over the summer.
