Between My Lines does #CleanSweepARC 15

April 28, 2015 Book Event 17

Every May, Kim @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, hosts a challenge to sweep through as many of those ARCs (advanced reader copies for those in the dark) as you can.  I love the idea of getting my arc’s shipshape before the summer really begins so I’m jumping on board again this year.  If you are thinking of joining too, check the link below for all the deets.

The Plan for a Clean Sweep:

  • I’ve decided to aim for 2 arcs a week and will hopefully get through 8 during the month.
  • And I’m adding in my own rule, that I’m going to review them and schedule them within a few days of finishing them.  Last thing I want is to fly through the books and let the review writing stack up.  That would be like sweeping the floors and never washing them, that’s not going to work long term!
  • No pressure!  I’ll mostly read arcs but if I want to reread a book or start something else, that’s ok too.  This is a hobby not boot camp!

The Book Stack I’m Sweeping Through:

I’m also going to work mostly on my physical ARC’s as I’m always conscious that these have cost publishers more to get them to my doorstep.  But I’m also a mood reader so if I’m more in the mood for an ARC that I have on my kindle, so be it.  And there are more than 8 books in the stack as I like ALL the choice when it comes to reading.

I do feel very appreciative that publishers have sent me these books and I never want to make reading ARCs sound like a chore as isn’t all.  But they mount up so fast and lately I’ve been reading a bit slower so I’m hoping that a concentrated focus on mostly ARCs for May will help me feel like I’m showing these books the love that they deserve.

I’ll be reporting on my progress in The Sunday Post every week so that will hopefully keep me motivated during the month to get my house in order!  Let’s do this!

Talk to Trish : Are you doing Clean Sweep ARC, if so leave a link so I can come see your aims and your books.  Or do you spot anything interesting in my pile that you’d encourage me to prioritise?

This sounds like a great challenge. I still have so many e-ARC’s and review copies I have to get through, although I don’t actually keep track of which ones are ARC’s and which ones aren’t, I just mark them all as for review on goodreads. I’ve been slowly working my way through some e-ARC’s while reading on my ipad and I am currently also reading an ARC on my Kobo. I considered signing-up, but I probably focus on normal review books next month on my Kobo and e-ARCs on my ipad or maybe I’ll finally catch up on some favourite series.

It says it is an ARC challenge but on the rules, it doesn’t matter what the release date it as long as it is a review book. So it’s pretty flexible. I need to focus on getting through my review stacks as I hate when I have too many unread ones.
And finding time for favourite series is something I need to do too, not to mention finding time to finish a bunch of them!

Good luck! I’m thinking of signing up since I recently went back to Netgalley and have started over fresh (I don’t receive print books from publishers). I make myself review an arc within a couple of days of reading them so I don’t forget or put off, like I used to.

I’m interested in your thoughts on Resonance when you you read it– the only title I recognize from your stack, but also I hope to pick up some other new titles from you 🙂

Thanks Rita! I track them all on a spreadsheet so I know I won’t forget any as it’s so easy to get book amnesia! I don’t read to a schedule though as that’s a bit of a downer for me. Instead I read according to what my mood is and thankfully I have a good selection of genres to keep me going 🙂

No pressure reading is the only kind that works for me. I’m hoping the challenge inspires me to read a little more than normal though 🙂

I’m going to try and just focus on ARCs for once Kim as I seem to have a load to get though. Probably because I have been reading less and I’m hoping the challenge will get me back on form!
