The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #52

November 9, 2014 meme 31

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

Randomness:

You can now follow Between My Lines on email!  It’s not exactly breaking news and I have no idea if anyone even wants to but if you do, it’s now an option.  I dragged my heels for the longest time about this and even wrote about why I don’t follow blogs by email but then I read that you should offer it as a blog option.  Over and over again I read that, so I have!  Link in the sidebar.

I’ve started my Christmas shopping!  I’m really trying to get it all done in November this year so that in December, I can sit back and smugly laugh at everyone else running around in circles trying to do it all!  Well that, plus I also end up working 7 days week in December due to a second job (well kind of a hobby that turns into the job for the season) so I really need to get on top of my shopping list now.  I also bought some gorgeous candles for myself while shopping for others.  These ones are chain store, cheap as chips and smell fab!  That makes me happy.  Candy cane swirl is burning while I type and it’s delicious.

Warning – moan ahead, feel free to skip!  I absolutely hate November.  It’s dark, damp and just plain dreary so I’ve been keeping busy to make it pass fast.  The sooner it’s over and done with for another year the better.  However I do squeeze in some lazy evenings to just snuggle up by the fire and just read and read and read.  Staying busy and reading just about make the month bearable.

Blog Ahead (NaNoWriMo bloggy style) Update :  I have joined in the NaNoWriMo challenge to schedule 30 new posts by the end of November.  *wide eye stare at screen*  It seemed like a good idea at the time!  But I’m made progress!  Not a huge amount as I was busy reading all my holiday books for the HoHoHo Readathon but some.  As of today, I have 5 additional posts scheduled.  Pretty happy with that.  What am I going to do with all this free blogging time I’ll find myself with in December?!

Second Chance Sunday – What happened here this week:

***********************************************************************************************************************************************

Second Chance Sunday – What caught my eye.  Why not go Sunday visiting?

Rachel @ Parajunkee discloses Eight Blogging Myths You Must Overcome.  I think the commenting one is a bit of an eye opener.  I tend to judge a posts success by the number of comments as it makes me feel like I made people react but shows another side of the coin.

Kelley @ Oh The Books! wonders Have YOU Ever Been Mind-Controlled?  I have and I’m proud of it!  I love dystopia/fantasy books with this theme.

Rita @ My Home of Books wants to know do you boycott books by authors whom you personally don’t like?  Interesting post and my answer is yes, there are too many good authors that I do admire and would rather support.

Ashley confesses that she Cares About Numbers.  Do you?  I do, I don’t obsess but do watch them.  I want people to read, follow, comment, etc or otherwise I’d just keep a private blog.  And I use the numbers as feedback to check what content people like/don’t like. It’s not the be all or end all of what I post but I do track them.

************************************************************************************************************************************

Books I have received to review:

Thanks to Edelweiss and Balzer + Bray for my copy of Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke.  I absolutely adored Prisoner of Night and Fog so I can’t wait to see what happens next in this fab YA historical fiction series.

Thanks to Edelweiss and Balzer + Bray for my copy of 99 Days.  I just think the cover is super cute and screams summer.

Conspiracy 99 days

**************************************************************************************************************

Books I have bought:

I’ve decided to declare November as Book Stopember and am buying no books.  Instead I’m doing something novel and am actually going to read the books I’ve already bought!

*********************************************************************************************************************************

Between the Lines is also on Facebook sharing details of kindle freebies and great giveaways as well as other random bits and pieces.  So if you use FB, please like my page and leave a comment so I can like you back!   Well, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.

I am also doing Blog Ahead and have about three scheduled – it will not be 30 that I know. I have to sleep sometime.
My holidays got much easier when my sisters and I decided to stop exchanging gifts. We don’t really need things and aren’t that close so I would be stuck with stuff that didn’t suit/fit me at all and couldn’t be returned. Finally one of us stopped without telling the others and the next year I stopped too.
That leaves two friends, my mom and my husband. My husband is hard b/c when he wants something he just buys it and then I have nothing left to get him.

I’m aiming for 20 posts now, I think that’s more achievable for me. Sounds like your Christmas got a lot easier when you and your sisters decided that. I don’t have a huge amount to buy as we give money to our nieces and nephews these days. But my parents are hard to buy for, my husband is ok as we just tell each other what we want! It means no surprise but that’s a small sacrifice to get something I really want! Hope you get inspiration on what to buy yours!

I really enjoyed your review for Hello From The Gillespies. I have it on my tbr and had been concerned about it loosing steam, so it is nice to hear that didn’t happen. I also read your review for The Secret Place and I did the fan girl squeal when I saw its release as well, even more so when Tana French brought back Stephen, Frank and Holly.

Anyway… good luck with your Christmas shopping and have a great week!

I know I was just hyped for the next Tana French book but the fact that it included those guys was the icing on the cake. I adored it (as you saw). Hope you enjoy Hello from the Gillespies, if you like character driven books it should work for you.
      Have a great week 🙂

It’s SO hard, I nearly gave in yesterday. Instead I’ve promised myself a binge in Dec which probably defeats the whole purpose of it!

  3. Laurel-Rain Snow

I love candles! I have a few around, but I need some new ones! Good idea, Trish!

I actually love Thanksgiving, so that says “November” for me. I especially love it now that I am not hosting the dinner, and my daughter is doing it instead. She has always loved cooking more than I do. My mother used to love it…so I guess the foodie gene skipped a generation…LOL.

Enjoy sitting smugly with all your shopping done…

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

I think we need Thanksgiving over here as it would really cheer the month up! Can you imagine December without Christmas! I think I would just hibernate for two months every year without it! Lucky you that your daughter loves to cater, it’s fun to just turn up and enjoy 🙂

I’m such a fan of gift cards. I don’t care about them not being personal, at least the person can get exactly what they want. Like you I’m not a fan of the crowds. I just want to be prepared and then I can enjoy the hustle and bustle from the sidelines 🙂

    • trish

I’m trying hard to get ahead but as to whether it will really happen or not, only time will tell 🙂 I like when I get organised though as it feels a lot less stressful knowing the blog is scheduled for the week.

    • trish

2 gifts is a good start! I have only got a few too but starting is the hard bit, well that and deciding what to buy of course. And paying for them LOL

  4. Lola

I agree that you should offer the option of people to follow you by e-mail, there might be some peopel out there who’s prefered way of following is by e-mail. I personally am not a big fan of following by e-mail, although I still follow a few blogs by e-mail from the time I didn’t knew about bloglovin.

Candy cane swirl sounds like a great smell for a candle! I usually try to do christmas shopping in November, this eyar I am just looking at my money and hoping I can find a way to not have to buy any presents. Which is kinda sad, but as our money is really tight, it’s difficult to convince myself to spend it on anythign other then necessities.

You’re doing great with Blog Ahead! I have managed to write 8 posts for december, which probably just about comepensates for all the posts I had scheduled for November. And I found out I still had quite some posts to write for November, so I got some of those done.

You are flying with blog ahead Lola, it feels good to make progress. I can’t wait to get all Nov fully scheduled and just concentrate on Dec and Jan.
I think homemade presses are lovely, as our vouchers to do something for someone. It’s the thought that counts.

  5. Greg

I always think I’ll start Christmas shopping early too, and every year I’m doing it in December! Maybe this year will be different- or maybe not. LOL. I agree about November, it’s always a blah month and if not for Thanksgiving it could go away entirely.

    • trish

I wish we had Thanksgiving here, it would really cheer November up. I’ll have to start my own tradition for it 🙂

  6. Christy

I’m glad you offered email. That’s how I follow the blogs I really like. There are blogs that don’t and it bums me out, because I don’t use bloglovin or any of those other services. I mean, I have them, but I don’t use them. So now I’m following you via email!

Thanks for following Christy! I don’t follow by email but I kind of realise now that lots of others do. Lesson learnt! 🙂

  7. Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros

I’m REALLY excited for 99 Days! I really liked Katie’s How to Love, so I’m looking forward to this one! And look at you and not buying books! I’m not either! (Well, I have some GC’s to use, but that doesn’t count, right?) LOL.

That is CRAZY you got your Cmas shopping done already! And really awesome! I’m sure it’s a huge load off your shoulders! I usually wait until the last couple of days because no one in my family can ever seem to tell me what they want ahead of time! Grrr!

Really wish I had all my Christmas shopping done but all I’ve done is STARTED! LOL. Oh well, at least I’ve made a small dent into it.
I’m looking forward to 99 Days, I got it after seeing it on your haul the previous week. That’s the worst/best of hauls, they give me too much inspiration as to books I need.

    • trish

Haha, I don’t think you’ll be able to ‘forget’ about it for much longer. It seems to be everywhere now from TV to the shops!

  8. anna (herding cats & burning soup)

Oh the candle sounds SO good! I love Christmas scented candles. I’m usually kinda meh on Nov too but we’re having a rare gorgeous day today. Bright and sunny and nicely chilled but not too chilly. Totally taking advantage of it.

Awesome on the 5 extra posts for Blog Ahead! Yay! Hope you have a great blogging week with it. 🙂

I’m a candle-aholic! I just love them, the look of them and the smell of them. When I’m sitting down chilling out, they just help create that relaxing atmosphere.

  9. Nobody@The Story Goes...

I love Christmas shopping! I usually get mine done early so that I can enjoy the madness of watching everybody else! My room spells of sugar cookies due to the candle I bought…ten of. =)

Anyways I hope you’re having a lovely week!
