The Sunday Post : Get your Bookish News #51

November 2, 2014 meme, The Sunday Post 27

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Grab a cuppa and let me bend your ear (eyes?) for a few minutes with all my bookish news.

Sunday Post   *********************************************************************************************************************************

By now my holidays are nothing but happy memories, a rapidly fading tan and a zillion photos to laugh and reminisce over.  I had a great time and in the end made the decision to leave the laptop at home so I didn’t blog while there.  Instead I read, walked, swam, cycled, wined and dined and basically had a ball.  Roll on my next break which will be a trip to Oxford in Feb and as an Inspector Morse fan, I can’t wait for that.

That centre table by the pool was my reading spot when the sun got too hot.

Blog Ahead (NaNoWriMo bloggy style) Update :

I have joined in the NaNoWriMo challenge to schedule 30 new posts by the end of November.  *wide eye stare at screen*  All I can do is my best and whatever figure I end up with, it will be a win.  The only thing I’m a little afraid of is feeling pressured and if that happens I’ll be backing away from it as that is not my aim for this blog. It’s my sunshine and I want it to stay that way!  Because of slight slump at the start of October due to work pressures and then holidays later in the month, I have used up most of scheduled store of posts and currently only have 3.  Watch this space to see my progress (or lack of!).  Which sounds like I’m starting on a negative vibe but I’m not, I’m happy to just plug away and see what happens.

Second Chance Sunday – What happened here this week:

Second Chance Sunday – What caught my eye.  Why not go Sunday visiting?

Asti fron Oh, The Books! shares MADAME MEMENTO’S BOOK ART PRINTS.  Swoon!  Love, love, love.  I need someone to buy me one of these 🙂

Candace from Candace’s Book Blog runs a Boost It Tuesday for Facebook pages.  If you are struggling to get views and likes on your page, I’d highly recommending joining in this weekly event.  It has helped boost my page no end since I joined in.

Nuz from Say It With Books shows you How to make make your blog post shine!  Good solid advise and I know when I let a review simmer for a little bit that I always add some spit and polish that just makes it feel better (to me anyway!).

Books I have received to review:

Thanks to Edelweiss and William Morrow for my copy of Daughter by Jane Shemilt.  I devour missing people stories; they horrify and intrigue me and this one sounds like no exception.  Love that cover too!

Thanks to NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion for When by Victoria Laurie.  I do love a good Sci Fi and the premise of this one is great.  Plus the name and the tag line are creepy!

Books I have bought:

Harder by Robin YorkAll broke Down

I bought Harder by Robin York because Deeper destroyed my heart and being a masochist I needed more angst in my life.  Now I just need to find the emotional courage to read it.  Ohh and I think the cover is cringe but whatever, it’s what is inside that counts.

I picked up All Broke Down because  1.  I love Cora Carmack and the way she has supported bloggers throughout the whole drama over the last few weeks   2.  It was on sale for $1.99 and   3.  This NA series is fab!

Between the Lines is also on Facebook sharing details of kindle freebies and great giveaways as well as other random bits and pieces.  So if you use FB, please like my page and leave a comment so I can like you back!   Well, that’s  my week wrapped up.  Happy Reading to all.

My sunny days are well and truly over! I’m back in the rain and cold again, oh well that’s perfect weather for snuggling up with a book 🙂

It might have been a good idea to leave your laptop at home, then at least you can relax without worrying about your blog. seems like you had a ncie vacation!

I am also participating in Blog Ahead, just like you I don’t want to feel pressured, but I hope I’ll manage to keep around the 10 posts scheduled. It makes me feel happy to feel like I am ahead.

I got When a few weeks ago, I really like the sound of the blurb and I hope to read it soon!

I can’t deny it, I did miss my laptop! BUT the break was good. I think bloggy NaNo is great idea and already I find its motivating me to think ahead so I’m really glad I joined in.

Reading and relaxation are pretty much two of the best things in the world for me. Especially in the sun! Its good for body and soul 🙂

Glad you decided to go tech-free for the vacation, wonderful photos and surely great memories to carry you through gloomier weather at home. I loved The Bone Season also, some might be surprised that I love a good fantasy now and again, but I do. Daughter looks like something I would pick up, so I’m marking it down. Don’t know what drama the author of All Broke Down was involved in, but if she had bloggers’ backs then she’s a good one in my eyes. Enjoy your week as you get used to being home!

The Bone Season was a great start to the series and I look forward to continuing on with it soon. I don’t read a huge amount of Fantasy but like you I enjoy them now and again. There was lots of drama on twitter about bloggers and authors lately. One blogger was stalked to her house by an author. And the author saw no wrong in it as the blogger had given her a bad review. I know there are two sides to every story but it was very disturbing reading about it. And then other authors were making a point that bloggers ‘owed’ authors reviews as we get free books and so on and so on. Very negative stuff but thankfully authors like Cora made a point of saying how they disagreed and valued what bloggers did.

Ooh, love the photos of your vacation…I probably wouldn’t have been able to leave the laptop behind…I’m such an addict! LOL

Enjoy your new week…and I am curious about Daughter.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

Sounds like a good mix. That’s the approach I want to take too, not too many memes and just misc stuff that sounds fun to do. I don’t want it to be a chore 🙂

Nice vacation pics- that pool (and the beach) look very inviting. Looks like a fun destination. And When looks good. I like the premise of that a lot, should be interesting!

I’ve finished When. It was goodish, I was a little disappointed that it was Sci Fi light but it was still an entertaining enough read.

Good for you leaving all the tech stuff behind. It’s nice to just enjoy your surroundings and looks like you had a great vacation.Don’t feel to bad about the tan fading. Mine is starting to and I live on the Gulf Coast. I’m liking the cool down but it needs to warm back up soon so I can sit outside while reading and soak up more sunshine:) Looking forward to what you think of Daughter. I’m wanting to read it.

My days of sitting outside reading are over for a few months but they were good while they lasted 🙂 And I’m happy now I did take a complete break from blogging while on holidays as I came back totally refreshed and mad keen to get back into it. The best part of Daughter was the end! Not in a bad the book was good but the end was GREAT! It rattled me!

  6. Cait @ Notebook Sisters

Your holiday looks like it was soooo nice. XD I’m finally going on a holiday at the end of November! Which is partly awesome because my family hasn’t been away in forever, and partly terrifying because I have to finish up NaNo a lot earlier! (I mean, I could write while I’m away, but I’d rather not.) Good luck on your NaNo project!! I HOPE YOU WIN.
Thanks for stopping by @ Notebook Sisters!

Nice to have a holiday to look forward to after all your hard work at NaNo. And it sounds better to have it done before you go as there will be too many distractions and it would be nice to just chill! Good luck with the book 🙂

No problem Candace, I love joining in every week 🙂 Hope you enjoy When, it was my first book by Victoria Lane and I enjoyed it.
