Halloween Special : 10 Things That Scare Me!

October 29, 2014 Between Reads 16

I can’t deny it, I’m a jumpy, nervy freak and even the smallest, unexpected noise or rustling sound all but makes me jump out of my skin.  So limiting this to 10 things that scare me isn’t easy.

1.  Mice and rats.  Urrgghh, I can’t even.  Even Roland Rat and Stuart Little frighten the life out of me.  Moving swiftly on before I give myself nightmares.

2.  The fear of losing someone I love.  Again something I can’t bear to think of.

3.  Horror films.  I know thats the point of them but that person beside you in the cinema jumping 10 feet in the air?  Sorry, that’s me!

4.  Dogs that come running at me when I’m out walking.  Now I’m a dog person, I love dogs that I know.  But dogs I don’t know, that have no lead on them, heading in my direction, running and barking.  So not my best friend.

5.  Dying in pain.  Needs no further explanation right.  Who wouldn’t be scared of that.

6.  The Apocalypse.  I totally blame books for making me think way too much about this.  On the plus side, thanks to all my reading I know some great survival skills but I’d prefer not to put them to the test!

7.  Tsunamis.  These used to feature a lot in my nightmares when I was younger and the thought of a giant wave horrifies me.  The destruction and the potential loss of life and the visual image of them just freaks me out.

8.  Leaves! Thankfully I’ve outgrown this one but when I was younger leaves blowing at me used to terrify me as I was sure they were coming to get me.  My mother still tells a story of me screaming my head off out in our garden shrieking about all the whoo whoo leaves!  I’m not proud!

9.  Religious themed horror films.  These scare the pants off me even more than plain old psycho killer horrors.  I totally blame my superstitious Catholic upbringing.

10.  Running out of books to read.  ARRGGHHH!  Say it will never happen!

Over to You:  What scares you?  Am I the biggest scaredy cat out there?  Any on my list that you can empathise with?

Ah a lot of those things scare me too! Leaves…not so much 😛 but my big fear that is kinda weird is Saunas / steam rooms. I feel like they’re gonna lock me in and I’ll suffocate or die from poisonous sauna fumes! Weird, I kmow. But but ever since I was a kid it’s been a huge fear.. 🙂

I reckon I’m alone in my leaf phobia! So glad I outgrew that one as otherwise I’d never leave the house at this time of year.
The sauna one is odd! Made me laugh, I love eccentricities like that :O

The funny thing is I think books are even scarier than movies but I guess you can put the book down while you slow your heart rate down and gather up your courage to continue!

Ugh, people who don’t keep their dog leashed drive me crazy. I don’t care how well-behaved he is… and most of the ones I’ve come across aren’t nearly as well-behaved as their owners seem to think. Just because your dog won’t attack doesn’t mean he won’t be a nuisance.

Most the ones I come across are ones that coming running out of gardens or farms. They are probably being territorial but I just hate it. And I agree, having a dog off a leash in public is just irresponsible.

At least you pretend! I can’t even do that. Standing up on chair with my teeth chattering with fright is a little bit of a giveaway. I’m too scared to even scream :O

LOL to number 10. At this point, I don’t think I’ll EVER run out of books to read! I am with you on Number 9…. the Demi Moore movie The Seventh Sign? Scared the shit out of me!!!!

I am afraid of pretty much all the same things as you! Instead of tsunamis, I would put t-rexes. I used to have recurring nightmares about them. LOL.

But the idea of NO BOOKS TO READ….arrragghh! That’s just so scary.

T-rexes? Can’t say I ever gave them much thought! Anything in a recurring nightmare is horrible though, especially those ones where you wake up and then drift back into the same crappy dream! Hate that.

Just like you I am afraid of dogs. I think it has to do with how I can’t predict what they are going to do. On the other hand I love rats, I have 3 of them as a pet and they are so adorable. Although pet rats are very different then street rats ofcourse.
I think the fear of losing someone you love is something most people can relate to, it’s just so scary thinking about that.
I am afraid of a lot of things, like losing control, elevators, orca’s, heights, small spaces without windows. I find things like the apocalypse and tsunamis scary as well, but I don’t really think about them a lot so I wouldn’t really list them as my fears.
