Book Review : Stay With Me by Elyssa Patrick

September 26, 2013 Book review 0 ★★★

Stay With Me is a fun, entertaining NA read with characters that are a lot deeper than they appear on first sight.

My Recap :

Hailey is a famous pop-star who has walked away from a life of fame and wants to live life as a ordinary student. She wants her chance at normal. When she meets Caleb, she is afraid he only wants her for her image but she soon learns that Caleb is so much than that.

My thoughts :

I enjoyed this book but I have to admit the first time I tried to read it, I wasn’t in the right mood and couldn’t settle into the story. I knew it was me rather than the book so I put it aside for a few weeks. And that did the trick, when I came back to it I enjoyed it a lot more.

I found the main character Hailey a bit annoying initially. She felt a little bit like the poor little rich girl complaining about her life of fame and success. Good looking, rich and with a fancy apartment and of course with guys bombarding her left, right and centre. Then, at her very first party, she met what seemed like a perfect guy and it all felt a bit predictable.

However, when I overcame my reservations and gave Hailey a chance, she was so much more that she first appeared. This probably sounds awful but it was when she failed a test in college that I first connected with her. For the first time, she felt real and a bit vulnerable to me. For the first time, I saw her bravery in trying something new, for starting her life again on her terms and with the very real possibility of it all going wrong and giving everyone the chance to say I told you so.

A big highlight of this book is the friendships. Hailey’s friendship with Daphne and also the group of guys that they hang around with. It feels solid and durable and good fun.

The romance is sweet and sultry but probably a bit predictable. I did like that there was a secret and how Caleb reacted to that. He is strong, direct and passionate. He knows what he wants and never tries to play games. I love strong male MC’s that are genuine good guys and that is exactly what you get here.

Overall a fun book, perfect for a few hours entertainment. The writing is fun and I probably would have given a higher rating if it was less predicable. I see the next book (Christmas With Me) is a companion book and as these are such an fun bunch of friends, I will definitely pick up a copy of that in time.

Who should read Stay With Me?

I’d recommend this books to all who like NA books with romances that are both steamy and loving. Also to those who like books with strong, solid friendships and male MC’s that are good guys.

Thanks to NetGalley and Elyssa Patrick for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
