What happens when your head and your heart pull you in completely opposite directions?
April Adams is about to find out the hard way.
When April enrolls at Manchester University, it feels like a whole new life. New city, new house, new friends...new crush.
Isaac Sharpe is the hottest guy on campus - with an even hotter reputation. After a chance meeting, April quickly finds herself wrapped up in all that he is. But what if all that he is isn't what it seems?
Caught up in a battle between what she wants and what she thinks she needs, April meets Lukas Roberts. Lukas is the security blanket that she craves so desperately and she finds solace in their friendship. But what happens when she finds more than she bargained for?
April has always been a big believer of fate, but will she learn that she's in control of her own destiny before it's too late?
Join April as she embarks on a life changing journey of love and loss, which will have you laughing and crying until the very end
Set in Manchester in England, when we first meet April, she is running late (literally) for first lecture at Manchester University. Caught up in the anxiety of being late on her first day, she runs headlong (again literally!) into the gorgeous Isaac. After a few moments of flirting and fun, she is on her way again and when she enters the lecture hall, she sits beside Lucas with whom she immediately establishes an easy and comfortable rapport. Do you see where this is going?
Yes, it’s a love triangle and yes I normally hate these. However not so with April Showers, I immediately picked team Isaac but Lucas was a close contender. Both guys have a lot going for them and both are approachable, witty and easygoing. For me it was plain who April should pick but there are some circumstances and secrets about both of them that make things a bit messy and complicated.
The pace of the book was great. It is told in the first person perspective from April’s pov and I could feel her attraction, her fears and understand the reasoning behind her choices even if I didn’t agree with them. What I really enjoyed about this book was that there was a huge amount of dialogue and banter and that was just so much fun. I felt just like I was eavesdropping on some very interesting gossip!
I also found this book is easy to relate to, starting university, making friends, gathering a new social network all sounds very familiar and so it was easy to immerse myself into April’s world. The UK setting was the first I have come across in a NA book and it added a unique atmosphere to the story. There are a few emotional ups and downs maybe not as intense as other NA books that I’ve read but all the more believable for that.
In addition we have some interesting secondary characters who added colour and further drama to the story. We only got hints of April’s background story and this is something I’d like to know more about so hopefully it will be explored in the next book.
The only thing I hated was the cliffhanger ending! I immediately followed and tweeted the author to tell her unfair to her readers that was, I needed to know more asap. Karli reassured me that the follow up is coming in October and even promised a few teasers so I suppose I have to be satisfied with that!
Who should read this?
Highly recommended as a fun, quick, easy read for all who like NA books with the added appeal of a UK setting.
