TTT: Books I HAD to have…but are still sitting on my shelf Unread

March 19, 2013 meme, TTT 25

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by one of my favourite blogs – http://brokeandbookish.blogspot.ie – if you are not reading this blog, then you should be!

This weeks theme is Ten Books that I HAD to buy but are still sitting there unread .  Again I’m going to go with 5 only as this works better for me.  This is a hard one for me as I usually don’t tend to buy books until I’m ready to read them.  But I have a few, so here goes:

1.  The Fault In Our Stars by John Green : Yes, I know it’s meant to be amazing.  But I also know it will shatter my heart so I’m afraid, oh so afraid.  So it is sitting there till I build up the nerve to read it.  And yes, I know it will be amazing! I loved Looking for Alaska.

2.  The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger – I bought this about *mutters lowly* 10 years ago!  I was really excited about it, tried to read it a few times but it never held my attention.  I know I haven’t given it a proper chance so I keep in hope I’ll read it and love it someday.

3.  Dark Days by Gillian Flynn – I read and loved Gone Girl so I immediately downloaded Dark Places when I finished that one.  But then I fancied a different kind of read and have just never gotten back to read this one yet.  I’m glad to be reminded of it though 🙂

4.  Reached by Ally Condle – This is not my favourite series by any means but it’s enjoyable  enough.  I still have to read the last book though, I’m always a bit sad and a bit wary of finishing series in case they don’t end the way I want!

5.  Burning Bright by – Tracy Chevalier : This is one of my favourite authors and I devoured every other book she has.  This one I bought but whenever I pick it up, it just doesn’t appeal so it gets left down again, unread and unloved, making me feel guilty!

Bookish Chat : Do you see anything you have read and should I give them a chance to shine?  What’s on your list?

Me, too, about The Fault in Our Stars… I actually decided to read it last from John Green’s books, I loved Looking for Alaska, at the moment I’m loving Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Let It Snow was a lovely read, too (especially John Green’s part), so I have to read An Abundance of Katherines & Paper Towns before I jump into TFIOS.

I have this tendency to save the best for last. I did that with Zafon’s books – although The Shadow of the Wind was the first book I bought, I still haven’t read it, so I decided to read Marina & his Mist trilogy, so now that I did that, I can finally jump into TSotW, hopefully soon 🙂

Thanks for stopping by on my TTT!

I put off reading The Fault in Our Stars for a long time, too. I finally listened to it on audio, and yes, you’ll probably cry several times throughout, but it’s worth it! I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife when I read it (when it was newish) but for some reason have never read Her Fearful Symmetry.

  3. Judith

Oh, John Green. The man is a genius, and I basically adore you for loving Looking for Alaska. (Not many people do! Or maybe I just talk to the wrong people haha.) TFiOS is gorgeous, and my favorite of his next to Alaska. I do hope you decide to pick it up soon 🙂 And like you, I still haven’t picked up Reached yet. I liked Matched, but didn’t like Crossed AT ALL. I do want to see how this series ends, but… apparently desperately enough. I will read it. Some day. 🙂

The only one I’ve read off this is The Fault in Our Stars, and yes, you’re right. It’s amazing but it’s one you have to be ready for because it’ll definitely move you! Sometimes you have to be in a certain mood to read such a book, so I can totally understand putting it off. Still, read it!! Ha 🙂

You are DEFINITELY going to love The Fault In Our Stars. And it will most assuredly gut you. I have a standing joke with a few friends of mine that that novel should come with a free box of Kleenex.

I haven’t read anything else on your list, though I’ve heard of the Matched series. Gorgeous covers lol. (sorry, had to add that. I’m crazy big on pretty covers.) Time Travelers Wife, that was turned into a movie, right? I need to read that one….

I also don’t have many books I haven’t read on my shelf, and I don’t have any that have been there for longer than two or three weeks. I’m almost OCD about not having unread books on my shelf, it just bugs me, knowing they’re there and I haven’t read them. I know, I’m weird.

Hey Kelly, the Matched cover’s are the best thing about the series! Its ok but the fact I haven’t read book 3 yet says it all really.

…I cannot believe your TBR (that you own) is so small. I need to introduce you to the world of free kindle books. They clutter up- ‘What shall I read?’ becomes a whole other picture! What do you think you’ll read first out of all of these? I don’t understand how you can leave Book 3 hanging like that. Well, you know me XD
I suppose you like libraries? I do too but I definitely read mostly my own books!
BTW- regarding my bloggity post- I approve of your sidebars! Yours (is that plural- it’s like 1.5 XD) mange to be really successful- it’s not minimalist but it looks as if you’re not trying to overwhelm the blog viewer. Good work! 😀

    • Trish Hannon

Hi Amy, didn’t include my freebies! I would be here till next week if I did 🙂 Would say The Fault in Our Stars will be the one I will take the plunge with.
Re sidebars, thank you! Not a clue what the 1.5 XD you talk about is??? Enlighten me 😀

STOP what you are doing and read The Time Traveler’s Wife RIGHT NOW! This is my #1 most favorite book. I read it when it was first released, and it has easily maintained that position ever since. And no, I didn’t like the movie. Seriously, read it! 🙂

  8. Loni

The Time Traveler’s Wife is a good read. I read it a long time ago and I remember it starting slow, but once you get to the meat of the story, it’s great.

  9. Susan

I felt the same way about Gillian Flynn, but I haven’t read more by her either. Also, I loved MATCHED, but haven’t gone any further with the series. I’m starting to see a trend here …

  10. BookCupid

I understand what you mean about The Fault in our Stars. I also wait for a specific mood to read a sad book.

    Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  11. booksandbooksand

Bah, I’m guilty of not reading TFiOS too. I’m sort of the same way about it as you are. I need to be in the mood and ready.
I really liked The Time Traveler’s Wife.

  12. Diamond Cronen

This is awesome trish! What a great idea! I think Dee’s Reads may have to do this soon ^_^ I recently grabbed so many books on the “book adventures” I go on, I know I’ll never read them all lol
